Any medical condition that means she requires more care than another child her age. I was told by plunket that Isla could get it just for her eczema, even if she hadnt had the other probs too. Any her eczema has never been as bad as needing wet wraps. |
I did ask my Dr about this and he said to give him the form and he will fill it in - didn't know if she qualified but said will see...
Now i find rhylz is starting to develope ezcema on his legs - I do hope hes not going to be like Brooke (who is at the mo getting quite a bit of ezcema) Its so fustrating creaming etfc... for it to go then come back within a blink of an eye...grrr

I only noticed yesterday that Maya's exczema has flared up on her back yesterday, she hasn't had it for ages Not sure what triggers it, it seems quite random.

Brooke is the same I just don't know the total cause... I know dairy products don't help though (shame she loves them so much)
I was hoping she would of grown out of it - but no such luck yet

my 5 yr old was on CDA for eczema but when it lapsed and i took form to doc he said they have changed it so only things like cerebal palsy and other disabilities that never get better can now claim so he filled out the straight DA form which i needed to go and get quotes and receipts to take to winz with that form that got granted but gets paid weekly and included in my benefit...my 7 yr old has CDA for another year before it comes up for review but i dont think he will be able to get it once that review comes up.

WINZ wont help though...they will give you the forms and process it but it's the doc who decides whether you get it or not (although obviously you have to meet their criteria)

We had the gremlins ones reviewed in June, Mercedes was originally getting it for reflux which has resolved but my GP signed it off anyway on her ears given that we've been making twice-weekly trips to Starship for some time now with her ears. Sienna's is for her kidney condition.

The criteria used to be if the child had a medical condition or disability that means they require a greater degree of care or supervision than another child the same age, including being on ongoing medication. Will see what I can find out about the criteria changing.

As far as I can tell on the WINZ site the criteria haven't changed...

"To be able to receive a Child Disability Allowance a client must:

generally be 16 years or over
be the principal caregiver of a dependent child with a disability (or if there is no principal caregiver, have the care and control of the child for the time being)
be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident (ie not be in New Zealand unlawfully or here on a temporary permit) and
generally be ordinarily resident in New Zealand
For more information see: Deciding ordinarily resident
In addition to this the child must:

generally be ordinarily resident in New Zealand
 be a dependent child
have a physical, sensory, psychiatric or intellectual disability
need constant care and attention because of the disability
be likely to need care permanently, or need care for more than 12 months and
 meet the required living arrangements"

My doc signed if for the allergies as he saw being on neocate and paying to go privately to a specialist as an expense worthy of getting the CDA, that plus having to buy more expensive foods, normally organic so as to get diary, egg free etc. However he did say we were borderline as there are some children who are clear cut like those with CF etc and then those like us that aren't really disabled but do need the extra care and then it comes down to gp discretion.
Perhaps there has been a complaint to gps about too many people recieving the benefit or something.

I think my GP feels sorry for me, last time we went for a review of the CDA she looked up on the computer and in the previous 3 mths Sienna had been there 4 times and Mercedes had been there 6 and that wasn't counting the trips to the ear specialist, kidney scans etc.

Yep. I also get the income tested one for the gremlins to cover the cost of their non-subsidised ear drops at $40 a pop and their specialists visits etc. but I think I only get about $18 a week all up on that one.

The criteria for the Child Disability Allowance haven't changed. We're still getting it for my 2.5 yr son because of his allergies and eczema & started receiving it for my 11wk old daughter just last week (for reflux and eczema).

Luckily their specialist is quite happy to fill in the forms & knows which boxes to tick.

Last week I received three letters stated that all three children are qualify for CDA. All of them got allergies and eczema but need full care to prevent children exposure to their allergens. I think it is case of what did your dr tick the boxes?
