OMG I am seriously bleeding so much it's not funny. We are going to Dargaville tomorrow and I can't go 20 minutes without having to change pads/tampons. :( I just went to the toilet, then got up again, then had to go straight back in to change it again, it's that bad.

It's BRIGHT red blood, smallish bits in it, sorry this is WAY TMI but it's so heavy and I have a dull cramping pain too.

 Does it last long?

First period? You must be still post-natal bleeding. It can go on and off for a couple more weeks yet but you are probably at the worst and it will taper off from here. Are you still using maternity pads? That may help? And the cramping is your uterus coming down to size, that may continue for another 2 weeks. Basically all the bits and stuff is a good old clean-out.

I had my first period at 6 weeks as well but I can't remember it being really heavy or how long it lasted sorry.

A friend just got hers back after 11 weeks and a c sect and she bled really heavily too right thru everything she said so I guess its just your body getting back to normal.

I would say it is more likely to be PP bleeding coming back. It's a pain mine went and then came back with a vengence just like you are discribing. Just make sure you have a good supply of "products" with you and stop often (if you can) and maybe have double protection a tampon and a pad incase you do leak.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Bugger, I didn't think it could be PP bleeding as I completely stopped at four weeks and this is a different kind of bleeding from what I remember the PP to be.

Ahh well, DP is constantly being sent back to the supermarket for supplies, poor boy.
Thanks all

with haleigh i lightly bled for 6wks then my period at about 8wks??
this time round my bleeding was very heavy (clots coming out to) they tol me it was because of the size of James and my uterus was big, my bleeding stopped at day 4 then came bak with a vengence and is back to heavy bright red, so I think its still got alot more to go.

I did find my first few periods after the birth quite heavy but they soon settled down. hope it settles down for you soon

I got AF back when Hannah was just 2mos - it certainly is possible that you have it back this early. I found my first periods back were unusually heavy for me but not too bad. I've just had my first back after Kryssi (6mos) and it has actually been fairly light! Weird.

It is possible that you have AF... and very possible that it will be different than pre-babe.

But like the others said, it could also be a continuation of PP. You could have just dislodged a clot and so it has started up all over again. Mine went on for aaaaaaaages (on and off) - drove me mad!
