Topic: Feeling faint.......     Posted: 19 July 2007 at 3:02pm |

I have had several episodes where I have nearly passed out. I start to loose my vision, start to sweat and my body feels a bit like jelly. I had one today just before lunch and had last eaten a couple of round wine buiscuts (sp?) at 10am for morning tea.

I asked the m/w at my visit yesterday and she didn't seem overly worried about it, just that it was probably my blood sugar levels. I am having a diabetes test in a few weeks (because of the baby being on the larger side of average), so maybe this will indicate something.

Anyway, my question is, is it normal to feel faint like this occassionaly or is it a bad thing? Its not all the time, I have had it happen maybe 5 or 6 times throughout my pregnancy so far.

 TIA

It can be completely normal, Peachy. Normal but a huge pain in the a**e!! I have suffered low BP throughout my pregnancy, leading to full on passing out, feeling dizzy/nauseous...it was why I had to leave work so early . The flip side is that if its low BP, this is WAY better than having high BP and if its low blood sugar levels, you can just suck on some barley sugars throughout the day to keep them up. Drinking plenty of fluids can also increase your BP if you start to feel dizzy...

Thanks for your reply Shell. I just didn't want to worry about it, but then suddenly thought, oh god what if its something really bad and here I am just thinking oh it must be normal!

I am trying so hard not to be a worry-wart-first-time-Mum!

What is your BP at the moment? Yep low BP is a lot easier to manage than high; try to eat something (good ) every 2 hours or so.

2 wine biscuits doesn't sound like a lot peachy! Scoff, woman, scoff! Eat the whole pack!
I have such low BP normally that it's borderline having to be monitored, so I'm used to the faint spells. You do need to eat quite regularly, drink a lot of water and sometimes even not stand for long periods. I make sure I eat carbs each meal, and don't go longer than an hour either side of normal meal time as the body can't handle it. It's a pain, but like the others said, so much better than higher BP. Oh, and low blood sugar has pretty much the same effects and cures, quite easily managed.

I actually had 6 round wine biscuits at morning tea this morning! I am a big drinker of water, I had two 750ml pump bottles between 9am and 12pm today and then a Charlies Orange Juice with my lunch which was a cheese and pineapple toasted sandwich followed by a banana bran muffin with butter on it!

I think I need to carry some lollies in my pocket when out and about for my job. I am walking around and standing alot in my job (along with lots of sitting while driving around the North Island. Maybe a quick fix of a lolly or two will help, I will try that!
I honestly eat ALOT, its quite embarrassing!!
Thanks for all your replies, you ladies are so helpful

I still eat more than DH, he keeps telling me to not dish him so much [
Lollies will get your sugars up quickly when you're feeling faint, remember to have something to keep you going longer as well.

I have always had problems especially when sandig up howeve with pregnancy my blood pressure has dropped to 70 over 40.  I have been eaing lots of fruit (natural sugars) and have found that this has helped me not to fall over as much.

My BP is pretty good but I've had a couple of episodes after having a shower where I've felt faint and had to crouch down for a bit and then had to go and lie down for a while. Probably shower was too hot methinks

I have low BP and lowish blood sugars and have random fainting spells even when I'm not pregnant (ended up in hospital once coz my sugar level was 1.5, but that was when I was on a stupid exercise binge ). I fainted twice during my pregnancy with Maya (as in full faint, fall to the floor) but it was mid summer so I assumed it was a combination of BP and heat.
Good luck with your diabetes test Peachy! I had to have one when my m/w decided Maya was big for dates but turned out she was just a big baby.
