     Topic: Reading a basal thermometer     Posted: 10 January 2009 at 9:50am |

   Hi girls,

This may sound like a stupid question, but I'm having trouble reading my basal thermometer. I bought it about 6 months ago and took it out of the wrapping but never used it. This morning I put it under my tongue for 2 mins (bit of a guess, as I've never used any kind of thermometer before). Nothing happened. There is a yellow tinted see-through strip up the middle which I would have thought would change colour, but nothing happened. DH had an old thermometer he pulled out and nothing happened with that one, either. That one might be just too old, but the one I bought six months about was ordered in for me from the supplier.

 What am I doing wrong?

Did it come with instructions? Are there batteries in it? Did you turn it on Sorry, I know those are really really obvious things but just in case I thought I'd ask...... maybe it's broken?

What kind of BBT is it?? Mine is digital - it's fantastic. Turn it on, chuck it under my tongue until it beeps and that's it done.

It's not a digital one and I can't find the original packaging. Maybe I should just chuck it and buy a digital one. Are they very expensive?

Treen did you shake it first?

Personally I'd get a digital one, mainly for greater accuracy and so you can record up to 2 decimal places.

Treen - you can digital ones for about $18 on TradeMe (worzel1 is the trader) or I got mine for $30 at the chemist.

There's no way it's still got a cover on is there?
I know it's a weird question but we got an ear thermometer and it took us a few minutes to figure out that we were trying to operate it with the cap on lol!
But yep recommend the BBT from Worzel1
