Hi Ladies

Ive tried a search and nothing has come up so I hope its not been posted before..

I have had a Laparoscopy twice, first in January this year and again 3 weeks ago. The surgery was to determine why I get period like pain when I dont have my period and pain that triples when I do. The pain is primarily on my left side. The first surgery came back all clear for endomentritis, adhesions, orarian cysts and PCOS. Which was great but didnt answer any questions.

Surgery 3 weeks ago was better (well if you want to call it that) because they removed a cyst on my right ovary. Weird since most pain is on my left.

Anyways, my Gynae said that my ovaries and other bits looked normal and healthy. Im really nervous though that I might struggle to conceive when we do start TTC.
Has anyone had this before and had trouble conceiving? Or the opposite, where they fell as soon as they started trying?

Any feedback, advice or suggestions welcome.

I have had one laporoscopy, where I was found to have endo (and parts of my fallopian tubes etc don't really look so healthy), and a large cyst on my right ovary. I have also had pain on both sides - apparently because in reality, the ovaries are a lot closer together than they appear on pics, so it may feel like it's the left, when it's really not, if that makes sense.

In saying that, I have fallen pregnant twice so far (quite easily), though sadly both resulted in miscarriages, although that may be a result of another health issue.

Good luck for your TTC journey

Ohhh, hey Rianna! Welcome to OB! I'm glad your laporoscopy came back somewhat ok (although didn't give you any answers ). Good luck with TTC when the time comes I hope that it happens quickly for you.

I was diagnosed with PCOS. It is better to talk to your doctor about this. Write down all the questions you have and book half an hour with them. If they cant answer it ask him or her to refer you to a specialist.Reason why I am saying this is that each case is totally different.

You will always have PCOS. But the symptoms can be managed. It is a syndrome so not everyone has the same symptoms at all.

You are more at risk for diabetes 2 (insulant resistance) so have to watch your weight. The male hormones in your body is likely to be higher than in other females and that is why you need to keep weight in check. Lots of PCOS woman is overweight and it is difficult to lose weight but not totally impossible. Many woman find their periods come back into sync after losing about 5% of the fat they are carrying. That is due to estrogen in the fat cells. More estrogen the more of the male hormone you usually have.

You might have stuff like skin taglets, facial or excessive hair (oooh I hate this bloody one with a passion). Some PCOS woman have trouble concieving and others need to be monitored in the first few weeks to make sure the progesterone levels is sufficient otherwise you need progesterone during the first few months of pregnancy otherwise it might end up in miscarriage.

Like I said there is so many different stuff ect but it is different for everyone so therefor it is better to go through it with your dr and see what symptoms you have and what treatments there is for the symptoms itself. To go on the pill usually help regulate hormones which help the symptoms as well.

You can PM me anytime you have more questions ect but it would be better for you to talk to your dr about this. If you feel he or she isnt totally supportive get someone else.

Thanks for that smoody.. Very helpful. My gynae hasnt told me I have PCOS and thankfully I dont have any other symptoms that you mentioned or others that I am aware of.

I will take a list of questions to my GP and see how I go. I cant believe how much there is to learn and know about the female body when it comes to having babies and TTC.

Thanks again for your advice and will definitely PM you if I have any questions . Its nice to know that were not alone, so to speak.

I had ovarin cyst when i was 16. I had one in my ovary and two in my falopian tube, the two in falopian tube tumoured and had to be removed which resulted in me losing my falopian tube. I wasn't thinking of kids at 16 so the thought of not being able to have them didn't cross my mind. As it is I have 3 beautiful children who each weren't hard to concieve - LOL 2 infact were too easy

It was not a dull pain in fact it felt like someone was grinding a knife into my side (left). they did think it was my appendix but that was out ruled once they did a scan.

I hope things get sorted out for you. Pm me if you wish - its still vaguely in my mind what it was like but thereis 'life' after cysts

at the time I didn't think how 'serious' it was. I actually got sent home after 5 days in hospital as I got my period so they blamed it on that, but after AF went it was back with advengence and got rushed back to hospital and emergency surgery as I had start to internally bleed (due to them tumouring)... rare case though then!

I did know someone who found out she ws pregnant when they were about to operate on her to remove hers - funny they still did the surgery....

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 15. The thing with that is people think that because you've got one cyst (like you had removed) it DOES NOT mean you have PCOS, which is probably why you weren't diagnosed with it. I initially had the syndrome (PCOS), but only a few cysts, not enough to be diagnosed with PCO. Now I have both the cysts and the syndrome (that's the acne, no periods etc). I had a lapro/hysteroscopy in 2005 where I had tendencies for endo, but now that I've become pregnant it seems to have blown up and reared its ugly head.

You can also have things that are less common, like a contracting uterus, irregular-shaped uterus etc. I have a heart-shaped one which leaves less room for bubs, and also get the blood supply cut off at regular intervals (causing that excruciating pain just like labour). This may sound like a lot, and trust me once I've had a couple of babies I would like to get a hysterectomy, but I managed to conceive in our second month of trying. It seemed that my body was just ready and my fertility specialist said that had we waited we could've missed the boat for another couple of years. Best thing, like was mentioned above, is to talk through all of the possibilities with your doctor, and if you can afford it, go private for fertility treatment when you need it. You can get in pretty much straight away and the care is so much better.

Ann Holy Dooley!! Thats not nice at all . Thank fully it was sorted for you, even if it did mean emergency surgery.

Emz thats so true. I dont think I have PCOS and like I said above I havent been told I do. So Im happy with that.
LOL at the hysterectomy. Im so with you there . Once we have 2 or 3 children thats it for me and be gone with the lot I say. Well done on conceiving in 2 months. Thats fantastic, and your bubs is due 3 days after my birthday hehe. Can I ask how old you are?

I'm 21, we chose to start quite early as were told by my specialist if we had to go down the long road it would be a few years and I need to get all my babies out by late 20's to deal with my other health issues. Just didn't think it would happen that quick!

Emz I can understand that. I am 23 and if I fall next year after we marry (or before) Im not worried!! Infact it will probably be a blessing in Disguise.

Jess OMG I was told I had enlarged veins/blood vessels the first time I had surgery as well. I thought it was them just giving me a quick answer (my gynae was not the best though and it was public)!! But my 2nd one was much better with us going private. The health system here is much different to NZ, very similar to the American way.

BTW what is Clomid? Good luck with TTC, I hope it is a better pregnancy for you

Rianna, are you off the pill? For some people it takes a long time to ovulate etc after coming off the pill, others it takes no time. For me, I was off for nearly a year when we conceived.

Emz no not yet. We were thinking January. I also looked in the Folic Adic topic cos I wasn't sure if I should be on or off the pill before I start taking Elevit.
