Well I'm a bit confused about what to do...
I just know I haven't O'd again this month.
So that makes it the 5th failed cycle of Clomid for me, one more month on higher dose of 150mgs and I should be getting referred to a specialist.

What would you all do if you were in my situation?

Really hate putting myself out there but I think I need advice.
Keeping in mind I'm a bigger girl, BMI of around 35, although at my perfect shape/size I would be a 25 on the BMI scale (Haven't been that for about 5 years though) and also I've been trying to conceive since last April.
Although in all the time of trying for a baby, my weight has never been brought up by my GP or my Gynae, but I'm worried it will when I eventually get referred to the Spec.

So I've been thinking all afternoon about what I should do and just wanted to put it out there to see what you ladies think...

Scenario 1) Do the next cycle of 150mgs of Clomid and get referred to the specialist if I don't ovulate, and try my hardest to lose what weight I can through that time...

Scenario 2) Do the next cycle of 150mgs of Clomid and get referred to the specialist if I don't ovulate and then put off the apptmt with the specialist for a couple of months while I try to lose as much as I can...

Scenario 3) Put off doing the next cycle of 150mgs of Clomid and try to lose as much weight as possible over the next 2-3 mths and then do the 150mgs cycle and get referred if it doesn't work and go from there...

Please feel free to be TOTALLY honest!!!

TIA

Thanks for replying BellaBabysMum, thing is I know I don't ovulate or get AF naturally even when I've been smaller in size but who know's with Clomid, it might just work!

I've been thinking option 3 might be the best bet but will feel really bad putting the TTC on the backburner, even though I'm not getting anywhere with it - state of mind I guess!!!

I have lost just over 4kg since the end of Jan but it unfortunately doesn't shift very easily...

If it was me i would do option one. The specialist will see that you are trying to lose the weight and maybe able to help (especially if its a medical condition such as PCOS). Also you may have to wait ages for another appt, so i would just get the ball rolling.

I would take the clomid and see if anything happens. Even though they only recommend clomid for 6months generally this can be prolonged to a year.

Good luck with your decision.

wishin41 - Perhaps just give your body a rest from Clomid (not what you want to hear I imagine) and try to lose as much weight and be as healthy as possible then seek a referral. I think on the Fertility Associates website they list a qualifying BMI for IVF, so perhaps aim for that? I know that BMI affects how many 'points' you can accumulate for IVF, and the lower the BMI, the better. You need a certain number of points to qualify so the more, the better (it also jumps you up the waiting list).

All the best!

I would go with number one, just so you can know what your options are. My sister has pcos and put on a lot of weight in a really short time and found it impossible to shift it. The dr gave her something (can't remember what sorry) and it really helped her to lose the weight so maybe thats what you will need?

Sorry I can't be any more help

Hey wishin41, it's tough going eh? Since you've already lost some weight I'd put off the next clomid cycle and try to lose some more, since the specialist probably won't do anything until you've lost more anyway, and who knows, if you've lost more weight before your next clomid cycle, you might not need the specialist .
Good luck, whatever you decide - I could do with losing 5-10kg, but i just can't seem to shift it. Re-joined the gym yesterday though - got to keep battling away!

Hey all!!!

Thanks for all your opinions

Well have decided to give it a break for a couple of months, feel quite sad about not actively trying but I wont be on contraception so hey miracles happen.. lol

Talked to my GP and Gynae yesterday, and they support taking a couple of mths off... so that made my decision feel more jusified.
