Hi,

So at our 15 month check the other week, the plunket nurse declared one leg was shorter than the other, not something I had noticed before or since.

So we went to the Dr as instructed, he said he could see what she meant but he was talking about lines of symmetry round the top of his legs, but only a little bit, so regardless he refferred us to a specialist who we see this week.

I wasn't concerned, DS was a late crawler and has developed other skills much faster, like talking. But I guess as the app looms closer i'm a bit nervous.

Anyone had this or know anything about what they are looking at?

Hi, I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I do remember when DS was little ( 6 week, 3 months check etc), they (dr & plunket) always checked the creases at the top of his legs to make sure they were even. This was a check to make sure his hips were in alignment, so perhaps this is what they're worried about?
Fingers crossed it's nothing to worry about.

if it is his hips out of alignment, a good physio (or whatever therapy you prefer) could be the answer. I wouldn't worry about it too much at this point. Hugs

Mika had (has) uneven creases, and for a while I thought one of her legs was slightly longer than the other. We had a hip scan and it was all fine. (Haven't really checked the leg lenght recently, might do that tomorrow)

Yup Brennan has always had uneven creases and one leg slightly longer/shorter than the other. Hes had a scan and it hips are fine so they are just keeping an eye on it, and the orthopaed said they do normally even up.

Good luck at the specialist, i wouldnt worry, every time i have been in there its chocka block with babies/ toddlers all getting the same thing checked,so its better to be on the safe side and get it checked out to ease your mind.

it could be a couple of things which is why you want to have it checked out.

It is not unheard of to have leg length discrepancy but they will want to check that it is that or whether it is coming from a scoliosis. A scoliosis is a problem curvature of the spine which would need input as they tend to get worse and cause all sorts of other issues as muscles and joints accommodate the unnatural curve. On the other hand if it is uneven leg length then it is less of a problem but not so treatable.

Ollie had uneven leg creases but the paed just checked his hips and said he was fine. He just has weirdly distributed fat on his legs

Hope your appointment goes well!

Gabrielle has had the same thing. One of her legs is slightly longer than the other and when she commando crawled she dragged the shorter leg along behind her instead of moving it properly. She's had her hips and legs checked and xrayed and they are fine. Just keeping an eye on it now. Our doc said it is not unusal for babies to have this sort of issue.
