hmm.... kayla has just started to get into the habit of biting down on my nipple lately, man it hurts! she laughed at me today after she bit me the little monkey.
i am already in the process of going to bottle's though, just havent been able to stop feeding altogether... my milk goes straight through kayla it seems. shes more unsettled and feeds more often after breast, but after her bottles is so much more content and goes heaps longer.
breastfeeding was bringing me down which is why i started to switch, so different reasons, but you just got to be happy kelly

there are all sorts of reasons to get sore breasts other than a bad latch like infections or thrush. they do get better at feeding and want it less. so i guess it depends on wether you can be bothered to keep going with it till it improves. i got thrush with my first son and it got so bad i would cry at the thought of feeding him - but we kept up till he was 14 mths old. not with the thrush tho - once i got that fixed it was much better.
you may find trying a different hold might improve his boobie manners too.

I gave up because I was so sore and couldn't stand the idea of feeding Maddie. It was mainly due to the fact I wasn't taught how to correctly use the nipple shield in the hospital (I was too flat for her to latch without it). I ended up cracked and bleeding even with the shield and I now have a scar even.

Have you talked with La Leache League or anything? Because at 2mos you shouldn't be finding b/fing so difficult.
The downside of changing altogether is the night time bottles, that's one thing that I really don't want to be bothered with lol I'm too sleepy at nights!

Hmm... see if you can find out from a lactation consult - the family centre is good.. or talk to your Plunket nurse/ring Plunketline and see if they have any idea. I agree, it shouldn't still be hurting that bad.. my friend had lots of pain for the first 6 months or so of breastfeeding and she found out her son was tongue tied, needed to have it clipped. although I can't remember if that was the cause of the pain or not.. as he couldn't latch properly.
If you want to give it up, then up to you.. but if I were you I'd be investigating the cause, as the pain is meant to subside in the first few weeks.. so there must be an underlying problem, good luck, I hope you can find out what is causing it.

I haven't but have had mastitis 4 times.. ugh.. it's not that is it? You don't have any sore red spots or lumps anywhere?
My friend who had so much pain BF had thrush, I think you can see it on the breast..do you have a family centre near you? You could ask them if they know what it could be.. it's free to visit too. I'm sorry you're going through all this pain

my son had the thrush - it looks like white spots in his mouth - and it made breastfeeding really sore...it was agony esp latching on. it got so bad i would sit on the side of the bed and grit my teeth and stamp my foot on the floor while he latched on and then hope like hell he stayed on till he was finished - i would have tears streaming down my face and hated the sound of him waking up knowing i would have to feed him. as soon as he got diagnosed with thrush and i started treating him and my nipples the pain subsided.

I have thrush atm and it is agony - feels like my nipples have windburn and just the thought of feeding makes me cringe. I'm using pimafucort which is a hydrocortisone/antifungal mix that I got on script from the midwife and after only 3 doses they are already much better.
If you have thrush you need to treat bubs with the oral gel as well.

I wonder if thats what I had bf was agaony for the first couple of months and took til at least 6 months to be ok. Bfing is something I felt really strongly about so I made myself continue don't want to offend anyone but I thought Jacks wellbeing more important than mine. As gsmum said it does get better its up to u whether you want to continue.
