Have you found info your AN teacher gave

Sounds like we had the same AN tutor!

I wouldn't say she gave us incorrect info - but was certainly anti anything other than having baby under a tree whilst wearing your hemp robes and praying to the fertility gods (no offence - but she was a bit over hippy).

That woman made us feel that if we had a CS then we had failed antenatal class! Same with epidurals! She put the fear of god in us over anything to do with monitoring and intervention!

So when I had to have both and epi and an emergency CS - I said my good byes to DH and my Mum thinking this is it... I'm gonna die and so is my baby!

I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but in that situation - I think she should have kept her personal beliefs aside and do the job she was employed to!

Ours was simliar too! She put the fear of god into all of us about any pain relief, only gave us the basic information and then went back to her push for a natural birth. 'C' sections were only barely covered and we were told that last resort, unlikely to happen, no need to cover it!
Also, don't you love how you can't get any information about bottle feeding? I did b/feed sucessfully but wanted to be prepared just in case.
I ended up missing the last 2 weeks because I felt I wasn't getting anything out of it! My midwife proved to be a much better source of helpful information.

At the AN classes, I was the only one having an OB. When I told the teacher that, I got a rather filthy look, and was basically told that it was guaranteed that I would have an intervention.

Well, yeah, she was right, I did have an intervention. My BP went up when I was 7 days OD, so I was booked in for an induction. I finally went into labour late that night, and when I failed to progress past 7cm, it was decided that a c-sec was best.

But the worst part was, when we had our first coffee group, she was there and when I told her that I'd failed to progress and had CPD, she basically laughed at me and said told you so (not in so many words).

And one of the other girls who gave birth vaginally, was in labour for 14 hours and was absolutely beside herself by the end of it. She had no pain relief whatsoever - and why? Because the AN teacher was her birthing partner! She really regrets that decision now.

The thing is they are basically told not to talk too much about c sections and stuff. I ended up going and speaking to the next two classes after I had Lily about an interevention birth as there is only so much info they can give, while I could give them heaps of info as a guest speaker!

Our lady was awesome - totally pro natural etc where possible but realistic abotu the stats too - at national womens the figures for a first time mum having a c section are over 40%. You can't not teach half the class.

I just had 3 AN classes that were run by my wonderful wonderful midwives - they covered diet and pregnancy at about 14wks, then a class on the birth, and another covering bf and CPR near the end of the preg.

I asked one of the midwives what they talk about in the 12 sessions run my most AN classes and she said it was a lot of "intellectual wanking". LOL, gotta love that woman!

oh wow our AN teacher was lovely and covered everything - she got us (all the parents to be) what we wanted to know and get out of antenatal, I I ut c section down as thats what i hadn't had (Rhyley was dh first so we went to antenatal so he knw what to expect)

She wasn't anti anything although she did say give it a go. That birth was a natural thing et c.... BUT she was also a phyisotheraphist (sp??) and so she gave us good adivse in postions prebirth and during birth etc...

We did ours thru parent centre. it was one night a week for 10 weeks I think. Even me not being a first time mum got something out of it.
