Topic: Heartrates and babies gender! Posted: 12 April 2008 at 5:27pm |
I was just wondering what people think about the 'faster the heartrate, the more chance its gonna be a girl' theory.
What was your babies heartrates while you were pregnant and did you end up having a girl or a boy?
Also, heartbeats slow down as the baby grows right? How do you know when you should take the heartrate (like what month!?)
 Thanks in advance!

My MW told us that the heart beats that sound like horse hooves 'clip clip clip' are girls and the 'doof doof' beats are boys.
She did stress that it was an old wives tale but she said based on that we were going to have a girl and we did. She made her 'prediction' every time she monitored the heart rate - so right through the pregnancy.
She did it for a friend of mine too and correctly predicted she would have a girl as well.

Oliver's each time we heard it was around the 130 mark which is a boy according to the old wives tale - and it was correct.

at the moment our little sprog is racing along at 161bpm, was this fast at the 12.5 week scan and was going between 150-160 at the midwives at 13.5 weeks and using my doppler this morning, I worked out it was still 160bpm.

Paris was always fast, and well, she was a girl.
Ayja, was mostly around 140s, and still very clearly a girl so didn't quite work for her.
Mostly babies heart rates are usually about double an adults average heart rate, right up until after birth, so usually anywhere between 120 - 160s is ok. Occasionally some babies do have a lower heart rate around birth and sit around the 100 mark, but mostly it's once they get older (post-birth) that their heart rates change.

Olivia's was always between 140-160 bpm. I guess that was reasonably fast.

Yup, and the earlier you are, the faster the heartbeat will be, on dating scans it's normal for the heartrate to be between 150-170, then it slows a little as you get further along.
I have no idea what Maya's was, the gremlins were always around 150 (and always within a few beats of each other which meant working out which one was which was a nightmare!) and this one is hanging out around 150 too.

I can't remember what Miss M's was but it was in the range that indicated a higher chance of it being a girl...i do remember that much.

Interesting, Lauren was a clipity clop type heart beat and yes she is a girl!
My m/w swore from 12 weeks onwards that I was having a girl, right up to and all the way through my labour she still swore I was having a girl, but I was adament I was having a boy for some reason. And guess what out popped a girl, she was soooooo right.
Actually I have my maternity notes right here on my desk, this was her heartrate tracking through pregnancy @ 18wks - 152, @ 30wks - 152, @ 32wks - 140, @ 36wks - 142.
I was always under the understanding anything under 125 indicated more chance of a boy, anything over 140 indicated more chance of a girl. I could be wrong though!

My babys is always 140, my MW said lower heartrates are usually boys and higher ones are usually girls, but of course no theory is full proof.
My MW guessed boy for Caden and thats what he is (Well we asume lol, dont ever really know until they pop out!)

i believed in this heartrate theory as it was true for everyone i knew that had babies.....that's partly why i was 95% sure charli was a boy.
the whole way through my pregnancy with her, the heartrate was exactly the same or 1-2 beats higher than jack was at the same 'age' which was 130-145. mostly sat around the 140 mark
as you can see, charli came out a girl
so i wouldn't take too much notice of the heartrates

If your baby is asleep when you have a scan or doppler check then the heartbeat will naturally be slower, if they are awake it will be faster, I think its just an old wives tale.
We are having a girl and her heart beat has been both fast and slow at various times.

It doesn't work for everyone but it has for most people I know. It's something like 110-130 boys and 140-160 girls. Or was the boys 120-140? I can't remember. Anyhow, all mine were 150-155ish for most of the time (and definitely towards the end). You can't really count it until after 16 or so weeks.

I thought that it was above 140 = girl and below 140 = boy.
Worked for my dd as she was always 150 ish mark if I remember corectly. This baby is a surprise and heart rate has remained 130-145 throughout so will have to post back in 3 weeks and let you know on that one

Hmm, I've been wondering if I'm having a boy as the hb last this week was 134 and with my daughter it was in the 150s from this stage on
