Topic: I need to know! Where does it hurt? Posted: 22 May 2006 at 12:57pm |
It just occurred to me that I don’t actually know where I’m supposed to feel the contractions (during the first stage)? I need to know so that I can mentally prepare myself lol
Is it just at the top of your bump (like the Braxton Hicks)? Or is it at your cervix when it dialates?
And…
At what stage do you feel your “lady bits” stretch to open up? Just the pushing stage when the head is close? And is that like the “burning” sensation I’ve heard of?
I saw on the birth vids at Antenatal class that her “lady bits” looked to be 10cm dialated as well as her cervix

lol "lady bits"!!
Umm, well I knew it was contractions cos my waters had broken. But they felt like bad period cramps. I dont remember feeling my "lady bits" stretching cos the contractions were so painful and close together thats all I could feel. The burning sensation is as the heads coming out, but I dont really recall it being painful, more just pushing sooo hard to actually get it out! Not long to go now Toni!

thanks for asking this questions - I was just wondering the same thing. I have been getting the occasional period type cramp but not regular and not every day.

I've been getting those too Erin - perhaps those "period cramps" are a version of the BH as well as the tight belly and twinges at the top?

yeah they could be - I dont think I've had an actual BH the way everyone descibes them, and I refuse to believe I could be having actual contractions.

I guess it would be like revising for an exam - everyone's methods are different so I can't think of any reason why everyone's body would prepare for birth in the exact same way. A lot of ladies on here have said "you'll KNOW when you're in labour" so I would worry about it just yet Erin

Ive been told BH are normally at the top of your bump and more they are a tight feeling rather than really painful althogh they do make you slow down. I remember the weekend before I went into hospital saying to my friend that I feel like Im getting my period, except obviously I couldnt be and then on the monday went into hospital and was already 3cm and the period type pain in my back was me dialating. during full on labour my pains were in my back like period pain x 100! and I could feel contractions more down the sides of my bump.

I just felt like I was coming down with an awful FLU. I was achy and cold all over. Then it was like a really dull period pain all over! I didnt really have contractions as such..just this feeling if continuous ache.

I remember when Jake was born, as he was crowning I though, oh this pushing thing doesn't really hurt. when I was in labour with Taine I thought, I remember this not hurting last time...bugger.
And then as he head was out, they said to wait a few seconds before pushing more. I thought stuff this, and pushed him out. more uncomfortable than anything in regards to pushing.
Befoer I was in labour I had days of cramping. I was hopeful this was labour without me knowing. one day I was right, but the other days I was wrong. I didn't really know I was in labour until just after my waters broke.

My contractions came on all of a sudden and were unmistakable, but didn't really hurt to start with. I kinda had to pretend they hurt just so I looked like I was in labour (well, for about 1/2 an hour, then they reeeeally did start to hurt) They built up intensity and pain over time.
I remember it being quite painful to push, but like the others said, the worst thing was having to make such a huge effort when you are at your most exhausted point. That is worse than pain.
hahhaha Good luck girlies!!!! I'm so mean
