If you get there early enought you should be able to get a bassinet, I just figured tht I would kick up a fuss if I didn't get it.
We flew a couple of weeks ago with our 6mo and the long haul flight was grea.
You can take a stroller to the gate, and sometimes they will let you even put it in the overhead lockers.
In saying that, I found a sling really useful in getting through security and getting to the gate on time.
I left a bib on James just so if we had an accident I only had to change the bib.
It is quite light in the cabin(especially if the person behind you has their light on) so you will want to tie something over the bassinet, we just used an airplane blanket.
