Ollie definitely isn't crawling yet. He's pulling his knees up and mushing his face along the floor but that's about it!
DH and I have spent most of the day so far swapping Ollie's room and the office. The rest of the house looks like a bomb site but Ollie has a lovely new room lol.
It's been such a beautiful day here - it was meant to rain but all the weather reports have been completely wrong - it's so lovely.
I need some ideas for baby food recipes please. Ollie is eating quite lumy foods now and I have made him wuite a yummy risotto with pumpkin so now I need new ideas. Particularly those with meat. Are you all cooking your own meals and including meat? I've been too lazy and have bought a few meals with meat so that he's getting some. Mostly 'cause I wasn't entirely sure how to prepare it. Any ideas would be great!

kate Im not making my own food lol, too lazy at the moment! Caden is just having baby rice with fruit in it for breakfast, some kind of fruit for lunch/afternoon tea and sometimes something at night, but he isnt too fussed.
He is having banana and peach etc in his fresh food feeder and rusks(which i hate, he got a chunk off the other day and nearly choked on it). Once he is having more soilds I will give him veges and meat at night.
Kate, thats how caden started crawling!

Really? Ollie looks so uncomfortable that way! I'd laugh if you're right and he does start. Gosh - we are not prepared at all for a crawler. Has anyone else bought any safety stuff or have you just waited to see whether you actually need any of it?

Caden started putting his kness up and mushing his face on the floor and then would start scooting himself forward, then a few days to a week later he got up on his hands and knees and rocked, then the next day started commando crawling, and he is getting better at it everyday! Im always up and down like a yo yo lol, very hard work while preggers lol
We have got a play pen and I use it as a gate aswell so he cant get past the couch to the kitchen, we just need to get a few other safety things, like for the plugs and stuff and cuboards as he is fihuring out how to open things!

hey Sheza I love the photos of Caden in the July thread!!! SOo adorable!!!!
Im making all my own food. I usually cook a whole packet of mince in a bit of water (this means keeping a close eye on it as it can burn easy or stick without oil) anyway, then I mash it (I used to puree it) and put it into ice cube trays or small containers, so far Ive done beef mince and lamb mince and then I cook all veges seperately, at the moment I have trays full of carrot, cauli and courgette ( all home grown ) then each night I mix whatever vege/s with the meat and so he gets a good selection. I usually do this once a week. He loves it. I hope this helps a bit? I do need to get more adventerous. Whats the bought food like? Ive never tried it with Zec.
I better go, was gonna writer more but run outta time.

The bought food is a real mixture. I don't mind the only organics stuff and some of the Watties is good. I've frozen a fruit mix thingy from only organics into ice cubes and Ollie gets 2-3 cubes with baby muesli in the mornings. That's a good idea with the mince. I already have cubes of pumpkin and broccoli so I just need a few more veges and the meat. Might be my project for the weekend I think. Mind you, our freezer is pretty small so there isn't that much space. Ollie's food is slowly taking over.
Well, better go and do a bit more of a clean up - we have stuff everywhere. I blame DH - he's a bit of a horder!!

Hi all,
Erika got up and started crawling on her knees today! A great anniversary present for us (our 2nd today )
I have used bought food with her since she started eating solids, just because when she began she wasnt eating much in one go. I use only organics or watties organics, and just get it when it is on special, eg. 5 for $5. Mum bought me a whole box too, which was great!! Now however she is eating quite a bit, often a whole jar at dinner, and it is starting to look like it will be too expensive to buy. Am a bit nervous of making my own though, seems too hard!
Hope ya'll having a good week
ps.. not sure what's going on with my tickers, it says i have been b/f longer than she has been born!! go figure!!!!

Hi all. Ahh just been at the beach. so much fun. Ali ate handfuls and handfuls of sand but had a great time doing it, which is what counts The water in the tide pools were as warm as her bath so she didnt freak out this time and had a long paddle.
Its not hard making their food, just takes a bit of forward thinking when your cooking for the rest of the family, ie, putting aside veges before seasoning them etc, once you start it gets easier) Ali loves quinoa (keen-wa). It cooks just like rice but has heaps more goodness in it. We mix it with grated rumpsteak and veges and she gulps it down. usually 2 bowls and then a fruit and cereal mix. fatty
We are lucky as Rexs family do a lot of home kills and have a massive garden so i know its all organic and humane. I do use the only organic range when im in a rush and just cant be bothered making anything though. She loves the porridge range. I just have to be careful with these allergies flaring up.. i think there may be more to it as she is still raw head to foot
Hope you all enjoying the sun

Hey MuppetsMama, it's our 2 year anniversary today as well - snap!
Blake is doing well but picked up a bit of a cold last week - we were at the supermarket and I turned round to find him sucking on the seat strap, I don't even want to think about what could possibly have been on it, but not surprisingly he was sick the next day. Then of course DH and I both got it as well. So annoying though, we'd had 2 weeks of Blake sleeping 11-12 hours and since being sick he's been waking once a night again Hopefully as soon as he's well he'll go back to that again.
I make all Blake's food otherwise it would cost us a fortune! He has fruit and baby muesli for breakfast, 5 cubes of veges for lunch then half a big bowl of meat and veges for dinner. Tried toast and marmite fingers yesterday and he had a little bit of fish at lunch today as well - a wee bit early maybe but there's no allergies in our family and he's only 10 days away from 8 months Going to slowly give him more finger foods, it's messy but he loves it and is pretty good at feeding himself.
No crawling and no teeth for us yet, every day I think there must surely be teeth coming through but so far nothing. Kind of glad he's not crawling though, we haven't even begun to think about baby proofing. He much prefers sitting now and will play with his toys by himself for half an hour or more, DH picked him up to feed him the other night and he got upset cos he wanted to keep playing.
Hope everyone's well, I've got an appt on Thursday to get a skin cancer check, fingers crossed it's nothing but now that we have Blake I'm much more aware of how important it is for me to look after myself.

Ive my fingers crossed for your check Jo. My dad has had alot of skin cancers removed and I had a spot taken off when I was younger which was nothing serious. I can't believe I used to sit outside in the sun with oil on all day! how stupid was I !!!
I agree Alianasmummy, the food does get easier. I feel so good after making up a whole lot and seeing the freezer full but man does it dissapear quickly! I definately could not afford the baby food, even at 99c a jar which Ive noticed paknsave do occasionally. My boy would eat 2 of those tiny jars for dinner and 1 for lunch, thats $3 for just 2 meals..eek!! My son eats a 420g tin of fruit approx. every 3 days I worked out the other day, so thats 99c on a special and it covers brekkie and snacks for 3 days which is really good going. Im not looking forward to the teenage years when he is eating a loaf of bread a day etc etc etc:!
Talking about fish.. my plunket nurse brought it up with me yesterday at Zec's weigh in and she asked if I was giving it to him yet and I said no and she said I should be, cos I thought it was best left until he was older so I will try it with Zec this week, how did Blake like it Jo?
Zec is starting to get patches of bad eczema (just like his dad) Im hoping it doesn't get any worse.. *sigh* oh well, it doesn't seem to be painful or itchy yet so hopefully it stays like that.
thats so cute about Ali eating the sand..hehe my husband built a massive sandpit afew months ago, its going to be a good babysitter for Zec in the future
yay for erika crawling on her knees!!
happy 2nd year anniversary's girls! Mine isn't until feb, we made a bit of a fuss for our 1st year but 2nd doesn't seem as exciting somehow..
well I better go as I can hear Zec waking up. he is so nice and warm and cuddly when he has just woken up

I mixed the fish with a bit of his veges (carrot, pumpkin and parsnip) just so it wasn't too dry, the first mouthful he made a bit of a face but then he scoffed the rest down just like everything else I give him lol! Doesn't seem to matter what it is he'll eat it
Yeah, my mum and my sister have both had bcc's removed from their faces in the last year and although I'm really careful about being in the sun I'm very fair so don't want to take any chances. I'm paranoid about Blake being outside!
DH just came home with the hugest bunch of red roses for our anniversary Aww, I feel special now

I can't believe Jamie is going to be 7 months tomorrow
I gave Jamie some fish and kumara he just loved it. I havn't cooked any meat for him yet. What I do is cook up some veg and then mix in a tin of Watties liver or beef baby food and then at least he is getting some. Been a chef I find it relly hard cooking food with out seasoning.
jamie is now sleeping 11 to 12 hours each night but is only doing half hour naps in the day.

Oops!!!!!! lol. I did wonder why he didn't look quite like all the other pics your've posted of Caden!!! lol. thats so funny!! .... how's the pregnancy going? hopefully your morning sickness has passed now..? fingers crossed for ya! are you having the same midwife you had with Caden?
Good boy Jamie for sleeping that long! Zech is doing the same and its great, he was asleep at 8 the other night and I actually had a bath once I put him down. I havn't had one in years. It was very nice and Zech never woke again until 7am. I really feel like Im sort of starting to get my life back again!
thats so nice of your husband to bring you roses Jo, very romantic. Im paranoid about the sun with Zech too, I would feel sick with guilt if he ever got sunburnt.
Looks like its gonna be very hot one here today. I was going to be going to a meet up today with other Oh Baby mums from Chch but looks like we picked a bad day and nearly everyone can't make it so maybe next time we will have more luck.

Im going over to Nelson Hospital tomorrow to get Alianas allergies tested. Fingers and toes crossed she isnt anaphylactic like her brother i dont know how i will be able to handle 2 of them, its hard enough being eagel eyed with just one. She still has a full body rash so its not looking too good.
I have been keeping the kids out of the sun during the hottest times, well as much as possible. Xavier is really Dark (puerto Rican) so i dont worry as much with him but he still has to be wearing loads of sunscreen if we are at the beach or in the sun for long periods but Ali is really fair so im far more careful with her.
Mother guilt is a horrible thing, no matter how good you think you are being there will always be things that you look back on and wish you did/didnt do, best to to stress about it though.
better go start some of the never ending pile of washing... sigh

lol
Its sooooo hot here today in chch!! It must be around the 30 mark. Zech has been out in the paddling pool but has just gone to sleep, which is surprising cos usually he doesn't sleep well in the heat and he has had some very explosive poo's today too! its really really gross! I have no idea what's caused it but I had a really bad case of food poisoning in the weekend (bad chicken at a wedding reception) so maybe it's something to do with that.
How did Aliana's appointment go?
thats cool you got the same midwife Sheza, so you both know each other prety well by now. how's that tooth coming along?
well I better go and park the car under the shade in the driveway as I have to go out later and it's like an oven in the car at the moment.
