Topic: Odd Potty Question Posted: 03 September 2007 at 8:16pm |
This is an odd question. My Mum told me that once babies / toddlers are walking, they use the potty for poo's but continue to do wee's in their nappies until closer to 3. She claims that EVERYONE does it that way.
Is that true? Do I need to get a potty and start putting Elle on it for poo's?
I know that it is up to us and everyone does things differently but I just want to know if Mum is right...is it what EVERYONE does?

LOL I don't even like using potties (don't like the double handling of emptying it out lol)! My Briona is just starting to say 'poos - toilet' at which time I take her there, take off her nappy (usually to find the poo, but never mind, it's all learning) and put her on while I look for a fresh nappy. She usually finishes off (usually just wees at that point) and absolutely LOVES the toilet paper
Hannah was a bit more ahead and was in undies soon after her 2nd birthday, but not fully trained (as in, I didn't have to pack spares all the time) until 2yrs8mos. I think Briona will be finishing up TT about the same time (or a bit later).

Ive never heard that before. I dont like potties either, only kept one in the car for emergencies but Kobe went straight ot the toilet, by his choice and that was when he was 2yrs 8mths and it only took about 3 weeks to a month before there were no accidents.

I so thought potties were what everyone did. Do you guys use a toilet insert or just straight onto the toilet?

Kobe went straight to toilet no insert, i had brought one just incase be he didnt like it. I brought a ladder/seat thing from the wareshouse which he loved cos he could just climb up and it had wee handles at the side.

We have always used the potty first, also better when training DD2 and DD1 isnt there screaming she needs to go NOW! As they have the potty to use. Its a nightmare in the morning if girls are up at the same time, its a race for the toilet!
I started taking off their nappies at 2 1/5years, DD1 took to it right away and was dry at night by 3yrs, DD2 is a different story and she has only just stopped having accidents (only pee) during the day and she was 3yrs last month.

I used the potty to begin with as it was faster if she looked like she was going to go very quickly! And the bathroom is/was freezing. I made sure I used the toilet as well so she wouldn't get freaked out if I tried to switch.
and with the poos thing, Han did seem to train with poos much faster than wees but it's definitely not a hard-and-fast rule... is anything in parenting?!
