I'm looking at doing a course but you need to be a member of parents centre but I have no idea what they are really about and I remember a few people on here are members so:
What does the PC do?
How do I become a member?

Thanks ladies

Most of the courses run by the parents centre I am a member of have courses available to non-members (just pay more to attend). You should be able to ask where the course is to become a member. Not too sure what they do ( ) I only joined when I did my antenatal class through them.
They do have some good courses though and once every 2/3 months you get a newsletter etc. but it has a discount voucher for a shopping day at BF.

We dont have to be members to do a course through them here. It is an organisation run by parent volunteers who provide parenting education courses. Contact your local centre- should be in ph book, and talk to them about what they offer, before you join. You can get a subsidy with Community Services Card too. Our local one currently doesnt have many volunteers to run courses, so they are not offering all the classes they usually do. We did our ante- natal classes through them, and found the "baby and you" course that I went to with Isla when she was 3 weeks old, once a week for a month, was really useful. As was the " Moving and munching" course for older babies.

Usually paying for a course buys a membership for a year, you get kiwi parentmagazine, plus you wont have 2 pay if u want to do other courses over that year. Im a pc committee member, I love it

Yes you need to be a member of PC. I am hoping to apply for the same course. Basically, though, its really only worth doing if you can find a PC who needs a childbirth educator, as there is alot of teaching class part to pass. You do get 2 years to do it, and while you could start your won classes somewhere, I'm pretty sure that you have to teach PC ones for a set amount of time (for us its 2 years I think, here in BLenvegas.) Good on you, it looks like a great course, I can't wait!
