Topic: PCOS - bigger babies? Posted: 24 July 2010 at 3:05pm |
Hi guys, I've done a bit of internet searching on this but haven't found much to answer my question...maybe you can help!
I have PCOS and am overweight but do not have GD...however, our baby is a big one. I'm not eating huge amounts, am trying not to carb load too much, have put on less than 4 kilos in my first 30 weeks of pregnancy, so hope it's not just that i've got a crap diet.
Is anybody aware of whether having PCOS can cause you to have a big baby, even if GD is not an issue?
Thanks for reading

I have no idea if there is a connection, but didn't want to read and run. I had heard that PCOS symptoms and hormone imbalances usually go away when pregnant so maybe it doesn't have an effect?
I have PCOS but my baby is average size for dates so far...

I haven't heard anything about it having an effect. I have PCOS, and Bubs is measuring to dates, sometimes just a wee bit smaller.
There are lots of things which can affect a babies weight, and some babies are just bigger than others, so I doubt it's anything to stress about.

Nope, never heard anything and I saw my OBGYN while pg who never mentioned anything. Babies will be whatever size they choose, going by a lot of factors including genetics, but PCOS (unless it has caused GD) isn't one that I've ever heard.

I have PCOS and had 2 big babies don't think there's a connection though. DS1 was 4 kg and DS2 was 4.3kgs. My midwife said
i just grow big healthly babies Which is a good thing!
I also did not have GD and didn't eat huge amounts. Both were full term as well.(39 weeks)

By the way if you have a 4kg or over 9lb baby take some 000 clothes with you as some of the newborn size, which is 0000 didn;t fit. Depends on brands though.

I have PCOS and by first bub was 4.24kg. Not unusual in my family as we tend to deliver big ones! This one is shaping up to be about the same size. My MW has said that the weight your bub puts on in the last few weeks is mostly due to what you eat. If you are having lots of bread, pasta and sugar then bub will probably bulk up more.

I have PCOS and my girls were 2.2kg and 2.7kg so about as tiny as you can get without needing NICU. They were twins though. I ate a lot in the last half of my pregnancy but the first half my morning sickness was so bad I lived off water and plain cooked pasta with nothing on it lol.
