QuoteReplyTopic: physio through ACC for sciatic Posted: 07 October 2009 at 5:53pm
Hi i have been having sciatic pain and was thinking maybe physio might help it.
only thing is i don't have that much money and was wondering if anyone knows if physio is still covered by ACC or if we can somehow get it with the free pregnancy care thing in new zealand.
Your midwife can refer you to a hospital physio which is free, but ACC does not cover physio for pregnancy related sciatica as such - to claim free physio you would need to have a documented "accident" to put on the form.

When I was pregnant with DS2 I had to go to the pyhsio because I hurt my back when I lifted DS1. I didn't think it would be covered by ACC but physio said I probably damaged it when I lifted DS1 so was covered.
Sorry I used to work in a physio and pregnancy isn't covered and I have to 2nd them cracking down ... it might be worth you talking to your midwife who can refer you sometimes when you start talking you realise that you did lift something (for example) that caused the pain so it might not be the pregnancy? Also I think most places now have a surcharge back in place.
Yip as of November ACC are cutting the cost they pay physios and the cost will be passed on to the client/patient. Im not too sure how much it will be.
But as the others have said pregnancy related problems are not covered by ACC so without a referral you are looking at around $50 per session.
