My platlets were up and down with my pregnancy with Josh. It was watched and I was told if they went under 100 then I would see an OB but they never did.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I had low platelets, just over 100. It just happens to some women during pregnancy. The one thing that they did tell me was that if they drop below 100 they can't give you an epidural. They will usually test them first during labour if you want/need an epi.

kawww mine went down to 90 and I was tested all through my labour as it just makes you a higher risk for heamoraging (sp?). Just before my c section they said they were still very low but safe enough for the op, so went ahead. If they went below 50 during labour I would have had to be transferred to a hospital where they do blood transfusions apparently in case I heamoraged.

Low platelets affects the way your blood can clot thats all.

What Peachy said. And yep, it's just a random pregnancy thing, as is low haemoglobin levels.

As the others said, low platelet count is just another one of those things that can happen during pregnancy. There is no known risk to the baby and it shouldn't affect your pregnancy unless it drops below 20 (which is really REALLY quite low!) They are usually a little cautious monitoring it if it drops below a count of 80, as peachy said it is involved in blood clotting so there is a small chance that you won't be able to clot well enough without some assistance in childbirth etc. if your levels are that low.

But all in all, I wouldn't worry about a level of 100, your MW and obstetrician will be watching it a little but shouldn't be overly concerned about it, IMO.

Mine was below 100 during labour and I was able to have an epidural as I had to have an emergency c section in the end! And that was after 27 hours of labour and no drugs
