I know there have been other threads about this but I have dial up so not going to hunt them down.

Anyway Jack woke up with all this yellow stuff around his eye and it looks pretty watery and gunky. I have wiped it a few times with cotton wool soaked in breastmilk. Does he need to see a doctor for Abs or will it just clear up on its own?
How long generally does it take to clear up?
Is it contagious?
Anything else I should be doing?

Ollie had really sticky eyes for about a week when we came home from the hospital. My m/w said that it spreads really easily from eye to the other, and just to keep wiping out the worst of the gunk and to squirt in breastmilk. His cleared up after about a week. I dont know if its different once they are a bit older?

at his age chances are it might be conjuctivitis and if it is then yep he needs AB's and yep its super contagious. I know that sticky eyes in babies is when the tear ducts is to small or something like that and it clears up eventually or they can make a wee cut to help it drain but thats only in extreme cases. I could be wrong but Im pretty sure at Jacks age it would be more likely conjuctivitis.

I'm with Robyn I think it is more likely to be conjunctivitis.

conjunctivitis i'd say   make sure you have a seperate facecloth/towels for jack as it's really contagious and wash your hands after cleaning his eye.
my jack has had this a few times and my dr said he could give me drops for it but it would clear up just as fast by keeping it clean and leaving it alone...which it did but it took about a week
