Do they like transliterations? Mikaere - Michael etc. If so, there's a Maori dictionary online that you can get the transliterations for a lot of traditional names.
I'm no help on unusual/unique names though - not my cup of tea at all.

Having absolutely no knowledge of Maori names at all this one automatically makes me think this NIWA which then automatically makes me think of NUMA which is from Clive Cusslers books.
