Has any one else gotten a letter in the mail from their Drs, saying that they are eligible for a free swine flu vaccine this week at the hospital?

Yeah I got one in the mail saying that I'm part of an early protection programme, it's free and I should go to the hospital one evening this week to get my first vaccine, of two. It also said that under fives are free if they are enrolled at eligible practices.

I was just wondering if many people have been sent this letter, or maybe it's because I'm going to be working in healthcare and my babies both have asthma? It might be for people at greater risk, maybe?

The letter also said that the vaccine is strongly recommended for pregnant women, because they are at increased risk of complication from the virus.

Apparently the vaccine has been approved for use with pregnant women and those breastfeeding.

I asked a friend who is a GP about this, and she reckoned I should wait until march and get the all-in-one vaccine - it combines the seasonal 'flu & swine 'flu, without the need for booster shots. She also said the seasonal flu shot is safe, but for the swine flu one, we are kind of guinea pigs. However she is PG herself & in some kind of swine flu medical research group, and if she is getting it herself, that's enough for me!

That sounds about right, I think it's an early protection programme (earlier than the flu vaccine) for people higher at risk, from what I gather, as there have been further outbreaks as expected.

Well the second wave that was supposed to hit the US and be worse than the previous one DIDN'T. More on that can be found here. This is the MOH's latest update on H1N1.
