i had a 2nd degree tear and didn't have too much trouble with number 2's afterwards. at birthcare they gave me regular doses of voltaren and panadol and when i did go it was just mildly uncomfortable.

I believe pressing gently on the area when you go also helps.

also by keeping the water and fibre intake up (metamucil or that sugary stuff whose name I can't remember at the moment) so that everything coming out stays reasonably soft... and supporting the area in front while you are going by pressing gently (with a toilet papered up hand)... and making sure that you aren't too anxious - if possible - stress makes it worse.

Whether you tear or not it can be kinda uncomfy doing that afterwards - actually kinda scary cos it feels just like when you give birth!! But yeah, either fold up a wad of toilet paper into a pad or use a maternity pad and hold that while you go. If its been a few days ask for some lactulose or something cos it will be sooo much worse if you get constipated...

Lactulose - that's the stuff. (hint with drinking lactulose - mix it in with a little bit of milk or chocolate milk and scull it back with your nose blocked....)

Ya just do anything to keep everything "very soft" down there so it slides out ....Sorry if TMI!
!!! Inc drinking YUMMY Lactulose and piles of water (which you should do anyway if breastfeeding).

The reason this can cause a few little "hurts" is because everything down there is muddled up...much like before you have a baby so you digestion is much slower and takes a while to get back into gear.

It's not so much that you can't go, it's just that you are so damn scared to as it is the same sensation as giving birth!

I think it's the same with every woman who gives birth vaginally.
But honestly, it isn't that bad, and like I said, you feel so elated afterwards! hehehehe

I remember after having my son (9lb 5oz) and tearing right up to my bum. My dreaded fear was doing the number two's. But the time had to come and so I pretended I was in labour again - phycological I am sure but it worked and it wasn't all that bad really.

I just put it off for as long as i cud so it came out fast. They have heaps of that kiwifruit stuff at the hospital to make it soft. Its more a mental thing, physically it doesn't really hurt. Make sure u bring soft loo paper cos that can hurt trying to clean up after
