My mw gave me a form last week for thrush. I only have a mild case, meaning I only notice I have it every few days or more.
Mw ensured me it was fine to use the cream (clomazol) during pregnancy.
The pharmacist says its ok, just dont insert applicator too far. And only use the cream one, not the pill form during pregnancy.
I have a MIMS book at home (the same reference book doctors use when checking medications. My doc gave one to me a couple months ago). Anyway, its says it is a category A which is the safest category for preg, but the precaution was pregnancy :S.
So……the reason for my hesitancy (because I can hear you now asking why I have already left it a week!) is because in dec last year I had thrush (now, I only ever get thrush while pregnant) so went to doc you have me canasten which apparently is the same as clomazol. So I used that (cream). Not quite 2 weeks later I got a bfp only to start bleeding a day or so later. It was later put down as a chemical pregnancy. So now I’m really scared to use this stuff! As I said I only ever get thrush when pregnant so have obviously used it before. I found it interesting that you shouldn’t take the pill form while pregnant. With my first (mind you nearly 16yrs ago)…I kept getting thrush while preg and was always given pills. For the life of me I cant remember what I was given with last baby, now 8yrs.
So I don’t know what to do! Im so scared of mc because im only 9 weeks tomorrow and scared what using this will do.
For those of you who have had thrush in early pregnancy, how were you treated? Because my symptoms aren’t there all the time; ie no itching or the classic cottage cheese, should I still take it?
Oh…and on the directions on the box it says not to use in pregnancy! And on the info leaflet that was in the box it says only if health professional thinks it is essential for your wellbeing!
What does thrush do if left untreated?? Omg I just don’t know what to do!

Hi there...I had really bad thrush with DD and got it every second week in the early pregnancy. I was given the 6 day cream and was told to only insert it half way. I wanted the three day cream but my MW said its too strong. I thing once I was given the tablet form to insert.....It was fine....
I did have mild bleeding at 8 and 10 weeks. Then major bleeding at 18 weeks. However all went well.
I am soo glad I didnt have that this time. Good luck with it

I had thrush in the last month of my 2nd pregnancy due to taking antibiotics (pretty much the only time I get it). I wasn't keen on any of those treatments so just kept soap away from 'there' stopped having hot baths every night (that was hard ) and waited :( It went away :D
You could always try natural acidophilus yogurt :)

arrrrgh I hate thrush!
About leaving it untreated- I had it for years untreated and it ended up fu$%^&g with my foofoo. Now I've got a super-sensitive (ie painful!!!) gland. I wish I had done something about it! Mind you that was years, not 9 months.
I kept getting it so much this pregnancy that I stopped treating myself. But then i ended up giving it to DH (yes men can get it too!) so he wasn't very happy lol.
I second the acidophiles yoghurt thing. You can eat it as well as put it on the sore itchy parts (un-flavoured of course! don't want chunks of apricot down there lol)
don't worry about the box saying don't take in pregnancy, they mean don't take it without consulting a doctor.
If you're worried about a m/c then why not wait to treat for a few weeks, til you reach the magic 12 weeks? It wont harm you, as long as you are comfortable!
It should be gone before you give birth though, otherwise baby can catch it on the way out. But that's ages away
good luck with your pregnancy!

Hey - I had problems with thrush while breast feeding and was uncomfortable using canasten due to the warning on the packet that you must consult with a doctor if preg or breast feeding. I went to a natropath and was given an oral probiotic powder and also a topical probiotic cream that worked really well. Both these are probably similar to using active yoghurt.

If you dont want to use the creeam, just put some natural yogart on a pad, its kills the yeast infection, and also eat lots of yogart, that aphidophils(sp?) stuff.

When I was in Chch Womens at 33 weeks I apparently had thrush and they gave me the Canasteen tablet that you insert with an applicator so it must be ok to use in pregnancy....

Thankyou for all the advice ladies. I think I'll give the yoghurt a go and see what happens. My symptoms are practically non existant at the moment so hoping leaving the cream will be ok anyway.

I've had a few bouts of antibiotics this pregnancy - and whenever the word 'antibiotics' comes up I always have to ask for something to treat thrush as it's pretty much a given that it'll bring it on for me.
I think though that the first time I used the thrush cream (and dr never said anything about only using half a syringe-ful, so I used it full strength) was during my 2nd trimester. I say go with mummytobesept08 - hold off for your first trimester if you're worried, let bubs get slightly more independent from you (ie wait till m/s dissipates and bubs is relying on the placenta) and then treat it. It def didn't cause me any probs at that stage.
Oh yeah, and DEFINITELY go for the yoghurt!
All the best!

I had to take antibiotics for a pretty bad chest infection about 2 months ago, and my GP told me to take probiotics at the same time, so I wouldn't get thrush. I didn't take yoghurt, but the Inner Health Plus capsules, as they contain more friendly bacteria. I didn't get thrush in the end.
Juts make sure if you are going to use natural yoghurt down there, to go for an organic yoghurt.

I think the pill that your not supposed to take during preg is the oral one as it is very potent. It can also be bought on by hormonal changes and stress so maybe when things settle a bit more with your preg the thrush will go. I only had it for my last preg not the 1st or this one (touch wood). You could also look at the **tablets**^^ - I just saw lady aset's post, give them a go & see if things improve
