Topic: TTC while breastfeeding??? Posted: 04 April 2008 at 3:07pm |
Ok call me crazy!!! But we have decided to have our family close together. Daniel is only 10 weeks and I'm BF him. As yet I have not had a period. We are not taking any precautions and ideally I don't want to fall pregnant until Daniel is 3-4 months. But if it did happen sooner it would be ok.
I don't want to stop BF, but want to know how long it took other mums to fall pregnant when they were BF?

I've been told by several people that you can ovulate quite quickly after birth. The reading i've done suggestions being careful if you don't want to conceive so close together.

We do want them close together... There is 13months between my sis and me, thats what i'm hoping for. mum fell preg with me when she was weening my sis off the boob. two under 1 with different birth dates would strange but we'd be okay with it.

Hi, I got my AF back around the 3 week mark with babies 1 and 2; and at about 6mos with #3. I conceived #2 and #3 while still bf but it was at the later stages, ie I was bf about 4 times a day.

I don't think you're crazy at all Verena. I think it's a lovely idea.

Good luck

:) he is a pudgy little thing... I'm dying to have him weighed again, but have to wait until next week. Glad things seem to be settling for you!
I'd love to have twins, here's hoping! My age and the fact that they run in the family are going for me!!! DH only wants one more, he already has a daughter so is kinda happy he now has a boy and a girl.
Sonya - gosh number 3 and 4 that makes a pretty quick large family :) 2 under 1 with 11 months between them is pretty cool. - (if you're okay with that)

I absolutely understand you, I think I was very lucky to have such an easy pregnancy and birth. I'm holding on to the hope that the next one will be just as easy. At least with the next one (or two :)) I will be in Australia and will have all my family and friends to help.
We don't have digital scales jsut a set of dodgey ones which say he weighs 7kg.... at 11 weeks I think they are wrong. But then it was over two weeks ago that he was weighed last and he weighed 6.18kg.

hey there i concieved ds#2 when ds#1 was 3mths (i had stopped bf only a week or 2 b4), but they are 13mths apart as sam was early rory was late (was like being preg for a whole extra month with rory)
rory was fully breastfed at 5months we decided to ttc for #3 we were preg a few months later but m/c and then when rory was 10mths old af returned it was 35days apart for 3mths then 32days then i was pregnant, i was breastfeeding the whole time rory was pretty much fully breastfeed til 9-10mths then i started weaning him and took months of testing how much i could partially wean with out fully weaning got to 1 feed a day b4 i got pregnant and stop bf when he was 16mths,
i am now 31wks preg and would really like another small age gap between this baby and the next, coz the boys age gap has just been great.

Theres a really interesting article in the little treasures on close age gaps and it says that its still easy to conceive while breastfeeding but that the 1st may wean itself around the 5th month of preg as your milk starts changing to accomodate the 2nd.
Hope that makes sense!

Interesting thread, I have been wondering the same thing. Lachie is 8 months and has four feeds a day. no sign of AF, we are just going with the flow.

It took me 13 months and AF returned after 6.5 months with regular cycles from then on. A friend of mine had her babies 13.5 months apart and she was breastfeeding full time.
