the last couple of weeks I have been going to the family centre in Waikato as Megan didnt seem to be getting enough from each feed. the first time were were there she got around 130 mls (they weighed her before a feed and then again after) a week later it was up to 150mls.
but anyway one of the ladies there was saying she doesnt need a 4am feed..and if she wakes to see if I can stretch it out to 5am then 6am then 7am etc.
now she woke at 4:30am this morning crying so I changed her nappy and she still was crying so I decided to feed her..I would have felt mean and she was obviously hungry as she fed (wasnt just comfort sucking) for a good 10 minutes..I only had to do 1 side and I was able to get her back down again.
so how do you deal with the 4am feeds with there 4-6 month old baby?

Most nights Blair is still waking too, taking one side, and we're back in bed generally 15 minutes or so later - unless I fall asleep. When I spoke to one of the plunket ladies the other day she suggested giving water at that time, and then he may start thinking that if that's all he's going to get, then he may not wake up - ie not to make it comfortable (for lack of a better word). Haven't started yet, as I need to get his day sleeps sorted again, before I do this.
Is Megan on solids yet? I know some babies, start waking again at night when they are about ready for solids (in fact most people ask me if he's on solids when I say he's back to not sleeping thru).
Don't know whether this post would be any help to you. We're not using a dummy, but have tried stretching it out at times too,

no not on solids yet she hasnt shown any sign she is interested..its not every night she wake at before 7am.
I am however looking to start her on them middle of next month sometime.

Cooper is 8 months and still has a feed in the middle of the night. Definite eating too! But then he's not the best eater of his solids during the day? It's a hard one!

I would just go with it. Daniel still wakes sometimes for a feed in the early hours of the morning. Some bubbas simply need that feed. I personally would rather feed than leave him hungry and he eats tons of food during the day.

Isn't waking in the night one of the signs that she could be ready to move onto solids? As well as being interested in food etc. Jack started on baby rice as something just a bit more substantial and he's been sleeping through again after a week of waking in the night.

I feed Lily if she wakes up at 4 or after. She goes down at about 6.30pm so I think that's long enough without a feed  She had weight issues too, but now she is on solids and because I am feeding her at night instead of getting her back to sleep without she is finally putting on weight.

If she has just started waking it could be her 5mth growth spurt. My plunket nurse told me that she didn't know of any babies that were sleeping thru at this age and she said it is a really big growth spurt.
My mother suggested I try the water thing too. I think that is what they did when we were babes. If Anyssa wakes at that time I prefer to feed her and then she goes back down until 8 or 9 and I get a sleep in!

Interesting that they said she wouldn't need it.
What time is her last feed? Does she have both sides?
Just go with it for now. Cooper still wakes at 4, and because he's bottle fed, we've been reducing the mls that he has and as we've been doing that he's slowly waking earlier.

yep i would just go with it for now... 4am wake up time is pretty good really i would say.
i wouldnt even consider that night waking...

I give her a dreamfeed about 10:30pm and yup she has both sides her last feed before that is about 6pm

I'd still feed her when she wakes at that time, if she seems hungry.
Eva still wakes during the night hungry. Up until 5 months it was twice nightly, now we're down to once a night between 3-5am. She always takes a good feed, so I couldn't imagine not feeding her when she wakes.

I still feed my little man if he wakes. Some nights he sleeps from 6 to 6, but generally he wakes between 4 - 6 for a feed. I don't mind getting up.
