I like what your mum did for you! Going out to dinner and wearing a ring are both quite grown up things to do, so maybe you could do something in the same sort of vein of being grown up.
Get her ears pierced if she hasn't already, take her to get a facial or her nails done... Any of those fun, grown up girly things!

Exactly! It's supposed to be taught at Year 5/6 but so many schools are prudish. What's the point in teaching them at Year 7/8 (some schools even 9/10 ) when most of them have already gone through it?!

Congrats for you and your daughter. Maybe dinner and a movie, or go get facials and do a bit of shopping, or maybe an engraved signet ring?

OMG I'm so not ready for all that. I've done the talk and got the pads etc but Natasha is 12.6 now and nothing so far but the pimples have started bummer.
Such a nice idea to do something special though so I will now be thinking of ideas too.
You could do the facial thing or have your nails done. But I really think a piece of jewelery is such a lovely idea, it's something to keep forever.

I wanna give our girls something like a purity ring, but I'll get them to wear it on their right hand so it is not confusing. That way it can stay on their right hand well after they get married too if they like.

We just recently gone through this with my Step DD as well and I didn't even think to buy her something special to mark the 'occasion'..

she's 11 also.... I was.....wait for it.... 17 *cough*

She has been growing little boobies for the last couple of years so I knew it was imminent! We are really close and I think talking about it regularly amongst other stuff has made it pretty easy for her to talk to me about that sort of stuff...eg armpit hairs, bras, pimples and skin care, appropriate clothing for 'young ladies'.

I might take her to get her nails done, or a eyelash tint (she has georgous long eyelashes). Then I think a nice dinner. I might also check out the local jewelers and see what they have.

I want to do something special cos its one of those things you remember forever!

Scary when your babies grow up

I was one of the lucky ones who also got hers at 8 . Aaaaaand I was away at my penpals house. And I had nooooo idea what was going on - to be honest I thought I'd crapped myself!! When I got home and Mum was doing my washing, she took me aside and handed me a pantyliner and said "I think you might need this" and that was that....I hid it from everyone else until about form 3...I'll never ever forget it, put it that way, but for all the wrong reasons!!!

Aw how lovely that your parents treated it so special! I was so excited when I got mine- all my friends had it and I was desperately wishing for it for months (I was 12- little did I know...). My friend got taken out for dinner and I remember being so jealous- I think the dinner/jewellery thing is a lovely idea. I'll be doing it with my girls
