Topic: Help, I need some advise. Posted: 22 July 2008 at 9:26pm |
Hi there, I've come down with a major cold.
I know it's ok to take paracetamol, but I've also read you shouldn't take it regularly.
Do you think it would be ok to take it for a couple of days in a row?
And what about otrivin nasal spray?
I usually use that before going to bed when I have a bad cold, so at least I can sleep. But all the information I read says not to use it because it hasn't been tested on pregnant women.
My regular pharmasist though said it was ok, as it doesn't really enter the bloodstream.
However another pharmasist told me not to use anything at all during the first 3 months (I'm 10 weeks).
Any opinions?
I really would like to get a bit of sleep.

Paracetamol is fine, the long term risk is liver damage which can happen even when you're not pregnant and it would take a lot more than a couple of days worth to do that. Not sure about the Otrivine, do you have a midwife you can ask? Otherwise try Healthline, they have a database of different medications so might be able to help.

My midwife also told me of the Otrivin. I never had to use it in the end but she said that was the one to use.

Yep, Otrivin is fine. I used it through the better part of my pregnancy as I'm so often congested and nasal.

Thanks guys! I'm very glad to hear I can use both. I've been pulling out my hair in despair, wondering how to get through this cold.
I'm so glad some relief is allowed!
It's so helpful having a forum like this, imagine having been pregnant before there was internet!
