Topic: Finding out the sex Posted: 28 March 2006 at 9:35am |
Just wondering how many people did/will find out the se of their baby? My husband and I are both unsure if we want to do this, we both see the pro's for both sides...and now I am wondering what others think and why...?

I will be finding out on Monday!!! I can't wait. I want to know what to buy, blue or pink. And i think it will be easier for me to get more prepared if i know what to expect. The other biggie is names , picking names is not a strong suit of me and my partner.
I also agree with mum2emj about the calling baby a boy or girl and not an it!

I will also be finding out the sex of the baby as you can plan what you need to buy and also you can choose a name for it more easily.

We didn't want to find out, but were told by an overzealous sonographer! Now I'm really to happy to know - Baby Joshua is part of the family before he's even born

Yes we are finding out for all of the above reasons! Actually my sister found out last week what she is having and apparently the sonographer said that around 97% of people find out these days Maybe that was just in that clinic as it seems a little high! Is anyone finding that EVERYONE has an opinion when you say you are going to find out?? it is really starting to pi$$ me off!!!!!!! Its no ones business but mine and DH's!

we never found out. I really wanted to but ina weak moment agreed not to. I started calling baby he and she on alternateing days. Which led to my dad thinking that I knew, and he would wink everytime I mentioned the baby by sex. As for names, we decided on a name for boy and a name for girl. We had alternatives just in case we changed our minds too.

we found out with both babies and am pleased we did. It helped me bond with Kobe and he became a person to me because I had trouble with the the reality that there was an actual baby inside. Same with this pregnancy, I didnt really think of her or about the pregnancy in a positive way until I knew it was my wee girl. Still trying ot think of names though. If I had the patience I might of waited but when the time came and they asked if we wanted to know I had to say yes.

I found out with our first, Maddisyn. I could not go through all that time not knowing. I wanted to be prepared you know?
This time we aren't finding out. We don't "need" to be prepared and it just makes it more exciting not knowing and it will be a lovely surprise!
Plus.... it will make a great game for guessing at your baby shower!! haha

Me too. I want to find out because of all the above reasons. I have alot of people telling me also that we should wait and be surprised. But nah not us. I think theyre just jealous cos back in their day there wasnt the technology to find out and they had to wait, hehehe.

with jack, we wanted to find out what he was going to be as we'd relocated a house and needed to redecorate every room basically so we wanted to know what colours to do his room in. also, i have no patience and had a feeling he was a boy anyway. the biggest reason though was so we could call him by his name and 'bond' with him before he was born. i loved being able to talk about him like he was already here.
that said, this time round it's going to be a surprise at the end. jack is moving into the bigger room so if it's another boy, which i think it is, we won't have to do anything in his room. we also have everything for a boy so if its a girl....yay shopping spree!
wow, that was very long-winded! sorry

I didn't find out with Hannah because to be honest, I didn't want an overload of pink clothes if she was a girl
It was a lovely suprise once she was born.
I can see why people find out though. I had a friend who was due the same time as me and I was so jealous she could refer to her baby as "she".

I found out with Kiya, and we found out with Josiah (but didn't tell anyone until about 2 weeks before he was born).
This time? At this stage, we're not going to find out, unless my instinct about twins is right!

I did, and I will. I am too impatient not to, and I refuse to refer to my baby as 'it' so knowing what bubs is will put and end to referring to bubs as he/she all the time.

Yeah I especially love it when they say "you MUST NOT find out".....whaaaaa??? Since when did you tell me what I must and must not do??? sheesh!
We're finding out...end of story. I can't wait to say "he" or "she"...we already have names and back up names so that isn't so much of an issue but we also want to be able to shop for the right sort of stuff...decorate the nursary for a boy or girl....plus...I can barely wait for birthdays or christmas and always shake and poke the pressies and try to find out what they are...why on earth would this be any different???

We found out first of all because the pregnancy came as such a shock that I felt if I knew what baby was, then I could feel like I had at least some control of the situation!
Also, as soon as we found out, it was like baby developed a character and a personality when we started calling her 'her' and 'she'. We won't name her yet because we want to make sure she suits the name we give her. We've got a few options picked out.
And yeah everyone seems to make that disappointed 'oh what a shame' noise when you tell them you know what you're having! Is that such a bad thing?!

WE kept Paris a surprise although we both really felt like she was a girl all along and only picked a girl name - well, only AGREED on a girls name - boys names mike just would not agree with, i was on the net looking for one the night before i had her.
We found out with Ayja simply because we wanted to know if we needed any new stuff or if we could get away with using Paris's handme downs - i mean we had some blue stuff, but alot of paris's stuff was pink - cos that's all people buy you if you have a girl! (i personally think blues look good on little girls too)
The other big factor that others have mentioned is we found out specifically so i could start to bond with baby as more than just an "it". since i was going back to study quite soon after having her, and also i had trouble bonding with paris the first time round cos of PND, i wanted to be able to name this baby and bond with her as a person before she was even born. IF there was/is ever a next time i would find out again, simply cos we have now gotten rid of our little baby stuff and would have to buy new.
i see pluses and minuses for both sides. - but remember, just cos you find out what baby is - does not mean you have to tell others. me and mike only told my sister and my MIL - so we each had someone to talk to about it and we wouldn't go nuts..(and paris, who surprisingly kept it secret as well as the name we had picked!) we found out FOR US, not for anyone else.. some people got all annoyed with us for keeping it secret, and tried to pry and trick us into giving it away, but hey - if we hadn't found out they wouldn't know anyway.
good luck deciding.
