Dunno if anyone can help..

My friend has been offered a good job in aus and has accepted and he didn't think about the fact he would need a visa..

I've had a look on the aussie immigration site and i think he needs a skilled - independant visa... does that sound right??

Does anyone know how long it takes to process visas? i cant find that info on the site

Is he travelling on a NZ passport? If so, he doesn't need a visa unless he's got any criminal convictions (even just a small one, like DIC) - in which case he needs to contact the Australian Embassy to find out what to do.

If he's not on a NZ passport there's different rules for different nationalities - if I was you I'd just get him to ring the Aussie Embassy direct to get the straightest answers.

Visas can take anywhere from 10 working days to several months to get, but if he's already been offered a job then it's likely the employer can apply for the visa for him once he's over there...

Yeah hes on a nz passport and is in the army (which I think hes started the process of getting out of)

If he is on a nz passport he wont need a visa.

However if getting out of the army is anything like trying to leave the airforce ... could take awhile

Nah it won't for him, he started the process a while back and his new job is aware of the army thing.

He will be happy about the visa though

No visa and if he is still in the NZ army (I can't remember if he has left yet) there are people that can help him get all the paper work done.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

He's not worried about the army stuff. He's confident that he will be leaving nz in 6 weeks. He started the leaving process a while ago I think
