Topic: Where did your waters break- if at all?! Posted: 02 July 2010 at 2:29pm |
Another thought at this stage- 37wks.. I am quite active and out and about everyday... I can't help thinking that one of these days I might subject a few spectators to a huge gush of waters breaking... in the supermarket? On a busy street?!
The thought doesnt really appeal to me and part of me thinks I should limit trips out!!
Where did yours go- if at all?!

Second antenatal class at 30 weeks.
Felt like I had a UTI, and wet pants, but not a huge gush.

I was worrying about that too at the same stage - even to the point of carrying towels in my car with me and of course they never broke, even when fully dilated and ready to push....MW ended up breaking them!
A piece of advice from our antenatal class (yes, mostly in jest!): whenever you're in the supermarket, put a jar of pickled onions in the trolley....should your water break, apparently you can break the jar of onions and pretend it wasn't you!
From what I've heard, even if they do break 'unexpectedly' it's not usually one big gush like in the movies, it tends to leak out over time, as the baby moves a bit too

I was the same as blondy, except mine ruptured as soon as I hit 10cm.
I had to giggle at the pickled onions scenario. I'll keep that in mind for this time around

Yeah mine didn't break until just before ready to push. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think only around 10-15% of labours start with waters breaking (although going by the movies, you would think that they all had to start that way!)

Hahaha, love the pickled onions idea. When I'm a bit closer I'll send DP running to grab us a jar of those before I get too far into the shop - just in case!!

Mine both broke at 5am on the day of labour. It was the first sign that I was in labour. My contractions started at 1200 midday with bubs no 1 and at 2pm with no 2. Sorry I don't know the code for babies and husbands like DD and DH. Maybe someone would tell me.
Mine trickled constantly over hours , no gushing like the movies thankfully and I've never seen it happen like that either. Good luck though, there's always a first time for these things, but hopefully it'll happen to someone else.

I'm so paranoid about it, from 37wks Iast time I kept to myself at home just in case, only to have them broken after an emergency transfer into town.
Now I've probably been lulled into a false sense of security, they'll go at the supermarket, & being a small township EVERYONE will know I've gone into labour so quickly. Gossips
It would be rather funny if every time I went to the supermarket I purchased a thing of onions too

My hind waters broke at home. I'd just gotten up off the couch to see what DH was doing in the garage. Just as I got to him (internal access) they broke and I felt a small gush. I thought I'd wet myself but nope. Then the MW at the hospital ruptured the membranes when I was fully dilated after I had the first urge to push.

My waters broke on the toilet! Good place for it to happen lol! I leaked continuously after that and went into labour pretty much straight after with contractions starting. I wonder how often it does happen in the supermarket lol! Good luck for your labour and birth

My waters broke on my way back to bed after getting up in the middle of the night to pee. For me it was a bit of a gush.
I was pretty paranoid about a public display too, but at the end of the day it is probably fairly unlikely and hey, its all natural
I do like the onion trick though Could look odd walking around with a jar in your hand bag though

Haha... the onion trick- thats awesome- thank you for that.... just the humor I needed! I thought today I could carry a water bottle with me and drop that if it happened...
It sounds as if there arent many public displays ... and I know sometimes- or a lot of the time they dotn break at all.
Sarah75 thanks for asking- i didnt know them either.. until now!
my3sons.. i cant believe how lucky you were!! i go enough these days- chances are it will happen there!! haha.

lol some of mine broke at home in the bedroom after I stood up from a nap...the rest were broken by mw at hospital. Not that I knew that at the time, I only found out a few weeks ago when my new mw for this pg was reading my notes from Clodagh and told me lol

First time around mine were broken late in labour.
2nd time big pop & gush while I was in bed <sigh> it would have been perfect for the supermarket or the warehouse, what a waste!

mine were broken by mw in hosp, I was already 3cm dialated but about to be induced so first thing to go was the waters!
I actually went out every day (I was induced at 41+5) in the hopes that I was tempting fate and things would kick start while I was out, but no luck!

First baby they broke whilst I was on the toilet, which was convenient, and lucky cos it was the massive movie style gush. I was having a contraction whilst it happened and my waters had started leaking 12 hours earlier so not a total surprise.
Second baby I was in the study when they broke, was trying to find my track pants cos I didn't want to wear my shorts to the hospital, again it was during a contraction that they broke but this time it was just the hindwaters (i think that is right, they small amount, rather than the huge bit which I think is the forewaters). It was enough that I had to change but had I had been out and it happened it wouldn't have been enough for anyone else to notice. Mw broke the forewaters (or hind if I have them the wrong way round) once we had been at the hospital a while to try to get things to progress a bit quicker.
Oh I was 34 w 6 days with first baby and 40w 4 days with second.
