Ok so I have read some of the other threads on here regarding cheese and looked at the NZFSA website, but it doesnt actually give a proper list of what cheeses we can have!

So wondering if anyone can help me.

Brie/camembert - thats a no go right? aside from if its hot?

Cheddar/edam/colby etc - they are all fine right?

feta - is this a no go?

cream cheese/cottage cheese?

havarti?? or any of the same similar types such as gouda?

and i don't know if any of you have heard of it, but there is one that is one of my favourites, called airedale. it is so scrummy. anyone know if this will be allowed? they are usually wedges cut off a round waxed cheese.

hoping someone can help! seeing as i totally love cheese and i don't want to be eating edam my whole pregnancy LOL.

cream cheese if it is a freshly opened packet, kept in the fridge and consumed within 24 hours.

camembert, brie etc if consumed within 24 hours of opening. or if hot

dont know the others as these are the only ones i eat

My understanding is that most (maybe all?) cheese in NZ is made from pasturised milk, so should be fine anyway, but of course have been exercising caution.

My interpretation was that hard cheese was fine - and I put edam, colby, cheddar etc into that category.

Any other cheese (including cream cheese etc) I have been buying and eating on the day of purchase (refridgerated until being used/eaten). If there is any left over I've been heating it up within a couple of days purchase.

But this is just my approach and everything has been fine so far. Everyone has different opinions on what is safe though, so just find out as much as you can, talk to your midwife and then make a decision on what you feel comfortable with.

aah you just reminded me of my fave cheese that i havne teaten in ages.. port salut.. is divine!! i dont know about the sort of semisoft ones like that but i would imagine that they would be the same as the regular 'soft' ones.. ?? not sure though

and feta is no go unless its hot also..

i have been also taking ariels approach, (though i ate some brie in early pregnancy and freaked out,.. but it was fine, and it was a day old also lol, but it really made my sandwhich taste so great!)

I ate all of those if I knew they were freshly opened or hadn't been sitting out. The only one I didn't eat was blue cheese.

Your right, it is really only unpasteruised cheese that is the issue, but don't think we have any of that in NZ anyways??

Yes, we do now have unpasteurised cheese, but it's not in the standard (supermarket brand) cheeses from my understanding - it's usually in the imported cheeses.

From the latest FSA info (which has changed since my first trimester!) :
unpasteurised - no
soft pasteurised (e.g. brie) - if hot (though I eat it if freshly opened)
hard yellow - fine but only buy small quantities at a time (oops)
cottage/cream/feta - fine if fresh (up to 2 days post opening)

Personal choice at the end of the day.

All is fine so long it is pasturised. It is a personal choice but if you want it eat it.

God the food safety website is annoying me, it seems to change the rules all the time! Ffs.

I eat anything that's freshly opened including blue, brie, feta etc. The food safety website said this was ok about a month ago.

camembert/brie - made in NZ with pasturised milk is fine. dont eat ones made with unpasturised milk.

hard cheeses (blocks... edam/colby/tasty etc) are fine.

cream cheese - fresh/new packet within 24 hours (but tbh i was still eating mine about 72 hours after i opened it lol)

feta - pasturised milk, fresh packet within about 24 hours

airedale - ask about pasteurisation (or read ingredients) if so then i dont see a problem - treat it like a hard cheese/block i guess?

the food safety website changes all the time. and tbh i was really antsy about what i did and didnt eat at the start... but then i was buying salami and egg salad from the supermarket deli... so im prolly not the best person to ask hehe

Theyve got it all pretty much covered, ill just add that dont have the cheeses from the deli (the part wher they slice chucks off for you) as you dont kno when they have opeened that cheese and how long it has been sitting there

and I love cheese. And I would like to advise you to apply for an essay to the writers of one of the best services essay writing websites. I went to him myself, and did not regret my choice - now I have a lot of free time and excellent essays without plagiarism, and on time. And college performance has improved
