   Hi there,
Just wondering when everyone got / is going to get their first pregnancy blood tests done? I'm book for first mw visit during week 8 and will be getting them done then ... is this a bit late?

Also, I know you can get a scan done at this stage too, although do you need to? I assume that if there is anything to worry about, it will show up in the blood tests so perhaps no need for a scan until week 13?

You only need to get blood tests done if you want to check you HCG levels, they also check iron levels and I believe check for a few other things.
As for the scan you can have an early one if you have cause to be worried (ie bleeding or past miscarriage history) otherwise you can just wait until the 12 week scan. |

The blood test you will get will test your iron, blood type and to see if you are immune to rubella and hep (I think lol). They don't routinely check HCG levels (which is the numbers people sometimes post) and a one off HCG reading doesn't really tell a lot.
Same with the scan, they aren't done at 8 weeks routinely unless there is miscarriage scare or some other 'abnormal' thing going on. Funnily enough the 12 weeks scan aren't suppose to be 'routine' either but they kinda have become that way.

I had bloods done last week when I saw my doctor - 4 weeks, 3 days pregnant I think.
They didnt do HCG levels, the POAS result and my cycle dates were enough for dating. They tested iron, blood type, HIV, Hep etc etc

I was 10 weeks I think, before I got mine done. They just need to be done in the first trimester some time. 8 weeks will be fine. You'll get another lot done at about 28 weeks I think.
Just relax - your MW will explain it all to you at your visit. And if she doesn't, ask her to |

Thanks guys - is hard not thinking about it all the time and when you haven't had your first mw visit it kind of doesn't feel real. I also keep wondering if everything's Ok but guess all you can to do is wait and try not to wind yourself up |

I got my first tests done at around 8 weeks I think. They can test HCG levels but I've found they don't seem to unless you are having problems or have had problems in the past. They test your Iron and also check your for illnesses. I can't remember the names of them and my MW has all my test results. |
