Punishment for BITING,
Blake has been biting for a couple of months now and its getting to the point that this morning he came up and bit me and I got such a fright and it hurt and I YELLED at him. Which I know is not the best way but really dont know what to do.
He generally only bites me and sometimes his Dad.

We had that when McKayla was about 13 months and had it for 2 months really badly. She stopped with her dad soon after but continued with me for that two months but never tried it with anyone else.

Try to see when it happens. I found that with McKayla it was when I was superbusy. She tries to nag and pull on me and all of a sudden she will bite to get my attention. Shouting and yelling generally doesnt help either (although at the point of her biting you just dont give a hoot do you? ;-) )

First thing for me is to try and found out why they do it. Might be out of frustration ect. Then try to change it if you can. Say if it is frustration perhaps try to redirect him before it gets to the point of biting.

If he bites then hold his hands get onto his level. LIke get on your knees. Look him straight in the eyes. Lower your voice and tell him NO BITING. WE DO NOT BITE IN THIS HOUSE. And leave it at that. If he does it again do that and then just leave him. If it is due to you being busy cooking ect try to divert again. Give him a special toy to play while you cook or do whatever and tell him you will give him special attention as soon as you are done.

We stopped it real quickly. With her Dad he just told her real firmly NO and she never did it again. It must be a different tone in your voice to let them realise it is not acceptable.

Hope it helps.

Jack was quite bad just after Caprece was born but it was mainly with other kids. In the end the thing that stopped him was explaining we do not bite before he does it, comment on how great his playing is when he was playing well. When he bites we would remove him straight away (to time out) say we do not bite only the first time and then cuddle whoever got bitten. If he bit after that he got put straight into time out without saying anything.

Good luck, it really does hurt tho and I have yelled more than once when I didn't see it coming.

Start right away and nip it in the bud!

Even if it's just putting him at the far end of the hall until he comes back to ya.
