Oh man I've missed out!
I thought I couldn't have mayo from the shop so haven't touched the stuff for 34 weeks now!

I love best foods - it's going on the shopping list RIGHT NOW!

things like ham and chicken rolls from say the bakery are no good, as the bacteria lives on that food, and other deli meats that you would normally get.

Bloody steak? hmmm not sure i love mine well done!!

Babe, cold meats are high risk for listeria (well, relatively, anyway), and pregnant women are extra susceptible to listeria. If you ate ham that happened to be contaminated with listeria it is likely to affect you (although you may not always notice the symptoms) and it can transfer to the baby and cause brain damage, premature labour and even death of the baby.

The risk of getting it is pretty low (hence why many people get away with eating *risky* foods), but the consequences of getting it are devastating, and it does affect several babies every year.

For me, I just can't place my own *greediness* ahead of my baby's safety. Its only 9 months of being careful what I eat, so its very worth it for me. That said, I have a list of tasty treats for when I've had the baby.

Haha - thats funny cos i think we all start out with that very same intention!! but there are only so many avo and tomato sandwiches you can eat in 40 weeks.........and of course when my MS came in at 6 weeks it was every man for themselves on what makes you feel less seedy.
I ate a lot of egg sandwiches also. I also bought a toaster for work so i could have avo and tom on toast and cheese and tom on toast as a change.........

But hey, I hope you do better than others with the good intentions..........I definetly havent used this time for a total pig out but i havent really watched closely either.....plenty of time for that after ive had baby......lol

I love ham and it kills me not to eat it BUT i have found ways around it by cooking it - so ham and cheese toasties, ham and blue cheese quiche, ham and blue cheese stuffed in a chicken breast wrapped in bacon and baked. etc etc.

And last pregnancy i cooked my own leg of ham for xmas and reckon that is fine to eat because you know it's fresh and the preparation involved. I got a quality free range ham from a good butcher.

Cold meat is about the only thing i try to avoid but must confess that salami has made it through on occasion!

We will be getting a ham for Christmas, but our leftovers will be done the same as Crafty1's - in a toasted sandwich, or cut into steaks and made into ham steaks on the BBQ.

Mmmmm xmas ham! Cut really thick on sammies! Sooo good! Salami is ok to eat im sure, as long as its in the vacuum packed things and eat it on the same day??

And babe im with you! I love my steak blue! As when its about your baby, its also about yourself. You can't take away everything you like, its just about common sense really! Lucky my baby's coming out very soon! (hopefully, lazy lil sh*t! ) and the first thing im going to eat is Sushi!!

hehehe I laughed when I read that too as I even bought this book of recipes for when you're pregnant and although I try to eat fruit and veges etc I have to say I've eaten more crap during this pregnancy than I normally would. I hope you do better than me - and some people definitely do :) Each trimester I tried to tell myself I'd eat better than the last. I probably have eaten the best in this trimester so far.

I'm so glad I'll have my baby by the time it's xmas ham time. Yum yum yum!!!
