Another aspect of babies/birth I'm interested in is if birth weight has any bearing on their weight as children/adults...does big baby (at birth) mean big kid? |

Funnily enough, I had a discussion with our PN last week, where she was saying that from about 16months is when you can start to predict what your baby's weight will be as a kid - apparently this is when it starts being a bit more stable/levels off. |
I'm fairly slim now at 25yrs but was born 8lb4oz which was on the bigger scale then.... I think the biggest comparison is probably mother's eating habits = birth weight tendency & tendency as a child/adult to eat similar to how your mother used to.

My eldest daughter was born 10lbs and is now 12yrs and a kids size 12, defintely the smallest in her class weight wise but tall. She can fit her 7yr old sisters clothes. So im not inclined to believe that big baby = big kid.

I have had all big babies - Rhyley was 9lb 4oz and he is only 10kgs at 15 months - Brooke was 8lb 6oz and she is pretty skinny and light now as an almost 10 year old. Josh was 9lb 5oz and yup he is around the 80kg mark BUT he is 6ft 2in so he stretches it out with his hieght and is a really nice build. I was a 7lber and adverage weight although use to be pretty skinny (too skinny really) DH was 9lb 4oz when he was borna nd he is a slim male..
So nope don't think BIG BABY = BIG adult

I was a good sized baby, skinny toddler and then skinny up until my early 20s - I got diagnosed with food intolerances then and my weight has gone up heaps. Guess I'm odd in that though so not much help really

My Maya was 9lb 1oz and 56cm and has kept her height, is over the 97th percentile, but her weight has dropped back to between the 50th and the 25th, she is tall and lean. She got quite chubby before Xmas but just had a huge growth spurt and is now scrawny again.
I was 8lb13oz which was biggish in those days I guess, and I've struggled with my weight all my life, since I was 7 or 8.
My brother was born at 34 weeks weighing over 8lb which is enormous for gestation and he is now 6'5" and solidly built but not at all overweight.
My sister was only 6lb something born at 35 weeks and like me she struggles with her weight too.
Baby bro was 7lb something and is 6 foot and scrawny.
I think genes play a far bigger role than birthweight.

Totally agree with that Emma. Alize and Mercedes were smaller babies by far compared to Lesieli with Alize being 3lb lighter and they will both leave her behind when they are older. Mercedes is already up to her shoulders height wise and they fit the same clothes with 5 years between them

Well I must buck the trend cause I was tiny when i was born just over 4lbs, average all through childhood and gained weight when I started work.
Now in my mid 30s I am 25kgs overweight. Genetics does play a part as I wasn't raised by my birth mother but I have the same body shape as her.
They do say first borns are more likely to have a weight issue.
I do think parents particularly mothers have a role to play, my mum was always telling me to watch my weight and most of the time I didn't need to. Now I struggle to get the kilos off.
