Kate has had a pretty bad fever (Up to 39.8c) since Friday night. We took her to the childrens dept at a&e on Sat as it was still 39.3 after paracetamol. They kept her in for observation and gave her Ibuprofen and put her on antibiotics. They think its either a virus or urine infection- so we gave 2 urine samples as well. Anyway- I've been giving her paracetamol and Ibuprofen since then, but basically unless she has both in her system then her temp skyrockets back up to 39.5-39.6. Its now been 5 days We have a follow up back at the childrens ward on Thursday but should I look at taking her back in? I would have thought that it should be going down by now- even just a little. Shes still just as bad as the start of it.

If you are worried take her in, at least you will feel you are doing all you can for her and it will help give you peace of mind

I'd take her in, there might be something else that they haven't checked for. Poor wee thing

The antibiotics should have kicked in by now , so the fact she is not any better is showing that it is either viral or they are the wrong ones. Her urine cultures should be available by now too, i would take her back today and review her now rather than wait. Poor baby

Hope she is okay!
A temperature that high, and for that long - you need to demand that something else is done or checked. Esp as she's only 8 months - that is a very high temperature for someone her age.

Hope the doctors can do something, and that Kate is better really soon!

Poor wee sausage! I would be going back too, 3 days without some improvement in the fever would worry me. I hope you get some answers and that she gets better really fast chick.

So the Dr got the results from the urine test and turns out it is a urine infection but its a stubborn one and is resistant to the type of antibiotic she was prescribed- SOOOOO glad I went to the Dr now otherwise I wouldn't have found that out til monday. Hopefully her temp will be done within the next 24 hours
We have to go to the paediatrician for more testing though just to rule out something more serious but apparently its standard procedure

Glad you found out what was wrong! Poor Kate though.
I think they always do more testing with babies when they have a urine infection - I know a few ppl with babies that have got them.

I'm sure she'll be fine - hope the fever goes away soon.
