Topic: ( things that annoy me... hehehehe Posted: 31 March 2006 at 11:27am |
1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time.... I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?
2. People who are willing to get off their butt to search the entire room for the T.V. remote because they refuse to walk to the T.V. and change the channel manually.
3. When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?
4. When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it?
5. When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.
6. People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?
7. When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new.
8. When people say "life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?
9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here?

I hate the spelling of your and you're. I'm such a grammar and spelling nazi! Even if I text I have to use correct spelling.
Just reread this and realised i'm sounding old. Then remembered my crap typing and all the mistakes I put on this forum.
Will now edit
I hate OTHER PEOPLE'S spelling mistakes. and "aks" instead of "ask"
also my nana answers the phone with
"are you there?" no, I'm not.
Oh, and after telling my grandfather Jake was playing in the paddling pool, he lectured me about making sure I watched him carefully around water. Grrrrr

I have to really watch myself sometimes not to pick on other people's grammatical or spelling mistakes, but if they get annoyed or ask why I'm such a geek LOL I just tell them my mum is an English teacher with a degree in linguistics ! That, or I ate a dictionary as a child

Yep, Liz and Jax, not that you would be able to tell with my typos, but I am a Grammar nazi as well, and I HATE HATE HATE when people use the wrong word or an in appropriate word, or confuse bought and brought, etc. Rod calls me the corrector, becasue apparently I am terrible at this (and others have also mentioned that I do this as well...)
Worst thing " he borrowed me five dollars" NO HE DIDN'T BORROW YOU FIVE DOLLARS, HE LENT IT TO YOU!
And I have no shame in asking people to use their manners. I hate it when people don't say please and thankyou.
Off the word subject, one of my PET hates is when people don't get their trousers taken up, and walk around on long long pants that are all ripped, dirty and scruffy. Especially dress pants. YUCK. I see it when I am lining up at the bank ALL THE TIME, girls in smart work wear and shoddy pants. ok, so not everyone can sew, but my drycleaner takes all my pants up overnight for $12.
Rant over....

Things that annoy me...
- I also hate old ladies (or men) calling me "dear"....i'm sorry but unless you are the person I married on 04 Dec 04 you are not entitled to call me dear...especially if you are male!
- people who say "yous guys"...."yous" is not a word. never has been and I really hope never will be!
- people who walk into our office (Air New Zealand) and ask "Oh is this House of Travel"...ermmmmm what do you think?
- Finally the people who used to ring up when I worked in the call centre (and I imagine still ring)...ask for the cost of getting to Christchurch then ask (in all seriousness) "so is that by train or what?"....well you rang an airline so would you like to take another guess?

OOhh there is one phrase or word that lots of people commonly get wrong (esp newsreaders).. but I can't for the life of me remember what it is! lol
jacobsmama, you would be pissed at me I just realised that the pants I'm wearing today are way too long! And I'm learning to sew too hehe, I probably won't do anything about them though!

i hate newsreaders mis[pronouncing maori words. I mean, lots of people do it everyday, but newsreaders and presenters should have it in their job descriptions!
Hilary whatshername on Lotto
"Todays winner is from Pack- er- ran -ger"
(pakuranga)
I've just done a Maori course through university that got me really angry. We had to give a presentation in maori, and so many people were really quite rude about it.
