Topic: TM Buys - what would you expect to pay? Posted: 11 August 2008 at 12:57pm |
I guess this query is a) because I'm perhaps a little out of touch, and b) I reeeeeeally need to clean out!
When you're trawling on Trademe, what sort of price do you expect to pay for clothing items? No more than $10, $20 ... is $50 ok for some things eg. a brand new label jacket? ( ) Trademe has gotten so expensive, I really don't want to list a pile of things at amounts that won't sell but I'm not sure what people would expect to pay ...
Help?

I think $50 is ok for a labled jacket that is new. I sold a Merino swandri jersey that I had wore a number of times (like all of last winter) for $45.

I normally sell stuff for half of what I paid or more if not used and less if a bit shabby. I sold some clothes from the UK that I hadn't worn or had worn only once and I got a reasonable amount for them. Not what I paid but enough to make it worth listing.
Trademe sucks for all its charges now.

I $1 reserve everything lol and normally get really good prices, $80 for work boots that I wore twice rrp was $160. $60 for a roxy jacket brand new that was $99 rrp and $30 for some heeled boots that I had worn heaps lol they only cost me $49 but people kept bidding!
Oh and I pay for something i really want, have recently purchased some brand new dresses at $45 a peice and was happy

Maybe I should try the $1 reserve - I'm just a bit terrified I may end up kissing a $400 jacket goodbye for $1 is all! Somehow I don't feel so bad if I get $50 for it ...
But, having said that, looking at the pile I need to get rid of ... maybe I should cut my losses and just get rid of it all!! Keeping it to not wear is more pointless than giving it a new home for not much.

You know what they need? The ability for someone to make an offer!

For a brand new label jacket, you should be able to get at least half it's retail value...just make sure you put the price that it cost you up on the auction!
I put $1 reserves on the stuff that I can't think of a price for, or something that has some value but that I just want to get rid of.
Anything new, or that has high value I put a reasonable reserve on...a price I'm happy to get if it only gets one bid.
I wonder, with the price of things at the moment, are people still spending/buying on TM much?

Yeah u need to put what you paid for it on there. If you are really worried have no reserve and start the bidding at $50 '. I generally don't worry lol we $1 reserved our brand new laptop and got $801 for it rrp was $1100 but we won it so ALL GOOD

Not only that but the definition of a 'bargain' has changed a little too with NZ Post's increased prices. You may only spend $10 but if it costs $10 to post as well ... TM's fees have really gone up too, but then I suppose the more you're charged, the more money you've gotten back out of whatever you're selling!

I have to say that the pics and description make a HUGE difference to being able to sell stuff.
If you have someone around that is a fab clothes styler/photographer then definitely get in on their expertise. Shout them a bottle of wine with the proceeds or something
I've found linking to the websites of designers also seems to attract people.
If I think of any more tips I'll let ya know.
P.S. Definitely pay for gallery.

Ooo I meant to say you may want to check the trademe rules on linking to websites as I know they've had a crackdown on it recently. I haven't looked into it though.

Might have to go through our stuff over the next few weeks and see if I can cull some of junk!

Hmmm because Im not back to my normal size as yet and dont plan on staying this size ... I try not to pay too much lol.
So I would probably pay up to $10.00 per item ... although I manage to score 4 Glassons skirts for $30.00 so that was an awesome score!
Now ... when Im at my normal size I have been known to spend more per item
