Everything that was on the programme was so true.
These days kids (and some parents!) need to harden up more! I loved growing up in the 80's - who knows how our kids are gonna look back on their childhoods!?

LOL, me too! That place looked great! See they have a 2 year waiting list though! I wish there was something like that up here where I could send DD. She would love it!

I recorded it too - love Latta. Warning he can be very blue with his language if you go to one of his seminars - but very, very funny and practical. Good article by him in the Listener too and we have his books.

Maybe now I'll have a few less people question why I encourage my boys to play league - and even coach one of them!

I was thinking last night, I wonder if we have such an obesity problem in part because kids aren't encouraged to use their bodies so they get to teenagers/adults and just aren't physically confident.

When I have kids I think I'll really struggle to let them take lots of risks - after ttc for 2 and a half years and losing 2 to MC I think it'll be hard to let them hurt themselves. But I'm so, so willing to work on that. And I loved last night the girls in the Dunedin preschool. They are so cool zipping around on the bikes and chucking themselves into everything. Loved it.

i missed the show, really wanted to watch it tho. Unfortunately sometimes we just cant parent like it used to be done. there are a lot more families where both parents work and kids are with carers who have to follow guidelines not always set down by them. i think too that we dont know our neighbours or neighbourhood as much as when i was a little girl either. in the street where i grew up my mum personally knew the mums of the kids i played with, the lady in the back, across the road, down the corner, if she couldnt find us someone would know where we had gone... i just am not that familiar with my area to allow my kids to roam freely (not that i would at 5 and 4 anyway).

But I do think parents wrap their kids up in cotton wool a bit much. Daniel plays outside every day (unless its pissing down) by himself. I leave the door open, shut the gates and let him go for his life. I've made sure there aren't any major hazards but I know my friend who has a girl of a similar age would never do that. I just keep an ear out listening to what hes doing. He trips up and hurts himself on the concrete on ocassions but never anything major. But he plays with his car and the pram and pushes that around and goes and plays in the sandpit and comes back a right mess but hes had so much fun doing it.
