 Topic: What do you study?

There's probably a few threads on this, sorry.
However, before kids I worked in retail and I really don't want to go back down that path.
I figure, all going well, I have about 5 years before I go back to full-time work so I'd like to start studying now, so I can pace myself and get organised to re-join the workforce.
I've always wanted to be a kindy teacher, but I really don't know if that's for me anymore.
I've tried a few things (I'm a qualified chef, travel and tourism...) but none have stuck.
So tell me what you study/studied, inspire me!

I wish I knew what I wanted to be..... I'm in office management, hate it with a passion and can't wait to finish (in less than 3 months!).
Like you, I'd also like to study and make a career change after being a SAHM but again like you, I've not a clue what to do.
What sort of things interest you?

I work in IT. While I don't love my job I enjoy the challenge, my company, and the time away from the kidlets.
Twice now I've started and not finished reflexology/massage related courses. That area fascinates me but it keeps getting demoted on the priority list.

I want to study HR next year but am not sure I would do that well. I have the experience of HR behind me and it's the only thing that I really enjoy.. but in saying that I want to get into recruitment so thats probably more sales than HR really.. so I am not sure if I should do sales training or HR training. But then I think a daycare / kindy would be good especially with kids at school.

I studied/work in I.T as well. I was really into it before I had DS, now not as much.
I would really like to study a science. I might look into it at some stage.

great idea Charly!!  Sorry I am no help though, I am in the same predicament at the moment, I looked after kids before I had my own and I dont know if it is something I want to further my qualifications with or try something completely different!

I've been working in sales (in a bathroom showroom) for the past 7yrs and do enjoy it but would love to further my skills and do an Interior Design Diploma. My ultimate goal is to get my Diploma and set up a design/decorating business so I can work from home. I'm going back to work part time in Jan (Isla will be 11 months old) so might do a design course by correspondance

Atm im studing Photography and i LOVE it but thats because its also a hobbie. I want to either go into photogrphy teaching at uni or photo jounalism. I did a bachlor in interior design in 08 and hated it. It just wasnt me and i never completed it so wanted to make sure i would do something i enjoy and would complete this time around

Will be studying nursing the year after next, next year am doing some bridging papers in maths, bio and chem to help with the following year. Hope to study midwifery when Lily is much, much older!

Great thread!
Just prior to having DD I was studying part time (and working full time too) a Diploma in Business. The job I was in paid for my study, they were very big on unskilling. I have two papers left to complete it and the thought of doing them just does not appeal anymore!
I would love to go back to study again, but as to what, who knows!

A photography course would be something I'd be interested in too RicKer! I never go anywhere without my trusty camera. Are there any photography courses you can do by correspondence? I'm not very good in a 'classroom' situation. I'd be much better doing it from home.

I've done social work, started but not completed a BA in social policy and politics, then did business admin, computing, and at the moment I'm doing a diploma in business with a goal to do the accounting technicians certificate which I would love to have.

I study Occupational Therapy.
Im actually a bit annoyed at myself for picking it, as after I graduate i will be one of the 200 new grads fighting for one of the 40ish Jobs Nationwide available to new grads.
But i do enjoy it, and it will allow me to work in alot of different fields from Peadiactics, hospital, community, private practice (getting people back to work) or i cna get a job at ACC as a case manager, or can do a few more papers and become a occupational assessor (kinda like health and safety but pays better)

Ive got just over one year til I finish my midwifery degree. I have always known this is what I want to do so it was easy for me. It is however really full on and hard when I have to leave the kids but I honestly couldn't imagine doing anything else.
Have you done that career quest quiz? They ask a lot of questions and give you a list of jobs you might be interested in.

Go on Peachy and finish it! Only two papers to go! Ive just finished my diploma in business (specialising in HR and management) and for the last two papers i choose ones that had no exams - was much easier than trying to cram study the night before  Anyway am soooo glad that I have finished it now as I was totally losing motivation but now have at least something under my belt!
So before kids I would have said i wanted to work in HR and get my HR degree.... now im thinking an early childhood degree and with my business diploma I will have more of a chance of being a head teacher or opening my own daycare centre one day!

hehe same as me! although im already studying nursing got one year left and i love it - so many options for where to work too, have recently got really interested in midwifery especially as my mum is one, but wouldnt work too well with a little family

I'm majoring in a BA in Religious Studies at uni with the view to tutor it to other uni students while I do my PHD in it...one day! Then eventually lecture on it myself I guess. Meanwhile I'll start getting more involved in LLL while the babies are small as I'd like to become a leader there...possibly with a view to being a lactation consultant, but not sure if I need medical training for that? If so I probably won't bother as teaching an obscure subject at uni interests me more hehe 
TBH though I could probably be a full time Mama and part time student quite happily for years yet.....maybe go back to being a 111 operator part time for extra $$ if we decided as a family that it was needed.

I wanted a change and nursing has always interested me so I thought I might as well give it a go now. I couldn't get into it straight away so did two papers in Semester one and two this semester which can be cross credited to the nursing degree. This has worked really well because it means that I am doing year one of the degree part time over two years which is working well with the kids. Have now been accepted into nursing, passed the first two papers and have just had exams for the other two.
DH is 100% commited to me doing this degree...if he wasn't then I just don't think it would work. Goood luck!

I am doing my Bachelor of Business Studies, majoring in Valuation and Property Management. It kind of extends on to my Legal Executive Certificate, Diploma in Conveyancing, and also my Certificate in Finance (General Insurance). It's all based around property which is what I love. I am studying my degree part time (extramurally) through Massey.
