Topic: sleeping help Posted: 01 December 2007 at 8:33am |
I need help!!!
Jack was a really good sleeper but lately he is getting worse and worse. Last night he was up at 12, 2 and 4am, once I was given a bottle, but he just was not interested in sleeping. We are starting to get very sleep deprived in our household and I don't know how to stop this pattern. He is at day care now and is often exhausted when we get him home from there so is in bed early (6.30) but he used to go to bed early and sleep 12 hours anyway.
Any ideas to try and go back to how things used to be would be greatly appreciated!

I think maybe you might need to get him sleeping through for just one night so he remembers what its like. Have you tried bringing him into your guys bed? We do this with Daniel when he's doing that kind of nonsense. He usually gets one good night sleep with us then goes back to normal

He has 2 shortish sleeps through the day, one morning and one afternoon, never more than 1.5 hours long (usually only 45min to 1 hour).
We do put him in our bed during the night if he wakes, but it doesn't seem to be making a difference

Hey did Jack call Alyssa and give her some ideas, she has been waking up about three or four time a night for the last three nights. I was putting it down to teething because her first one came the other day. And she has started to refused to breast feed during the day, not that she will take a bottle either so she is filling up during the night. Such fun NOT. But miss Alyssa has only ever slept through about five nights in her whole life so far.
Anyway would love to hear what others have to say about this too.

Sarah is he teething? Sam's night go all to hell when she is. She will wake 3-4 times when she wouldn't normally wake at all!

Is he on the verge of crawling or sitting on his own or something? sometimes they go through a wee stage where they want to practice every second they get and if this is it he should go back to normal once he has it sussed.
Also does he really cry when he wakes? You could try leaving him to make sure hes actually awake and hungry cos he might just go back to sleep on his own if you leave him.
Good luck

I think Jack and Noah have been giving each other ideas... Noah has been a bit wakeful for the last couple of nights. Not really awake but crying the house down. He seemed thirsty the couple of times we have taken him out of bed but too tired to take a drink. We have been really pushing the water during the day and that seems to have made a difference. Also dressing him really lightly at night has helped too. Hope he starts behaving again soon SB and you and DH get a good nights sleep soon.

Sound alot like teething SB. Do you have any Bonjela on hand? Perhaps try smearing a bit on his gums when he wakes the first time and see if that helps him settle!
Sam did the exact same thing with her first two teeth, and finally went back to sleeping through.....now she has another bottom tooth coming through and woke last night at 10, 12 & 3.40am!! Bonjela was applied and she went back to sleep straight away thank goodness!

He actually isn't always crying, just yelling at the top of his voice (he has really found it now). I am wonder a bit about the learning new skill though, he has now learnt to roll over (yes a late one here) and we often now go in to find him on his tummy, legs through the bars of the cot. Also he has learnt to shuffle backwards to reach the toys outside his cot which I caught him doing earlier last night.
I do wonder about teething, but has been going on for awhile now. *yawn*

He could be too warm or maybe a little chilly? Does he kick off his blanket?
When he wakes up, is he hungry, need nappy change, cuddle, seem in pain ie teething or does he just want to play?
Gina has the same day sleep pattern - she sleeps twice and each one is about an hour. But she never goes to bed at night before around 8:30-9:00.
When she's teething, Gina normally wakes up thru the night too, but she is crying loudly and you can see she's in pain - normally some Pamol, Bonjela and loads of cuddles (and about 1/2 hour rocking ) get her back to sleep. She went thru a period a like that a week ago or so but it only lasted a few days and although we could see the top tooth that was bothering, it never really popped up. She's back to sleeping normally now
Hope Jack goes back to sleeping thru the night soon.

It might be worth trying a safe T sleep. with my second, once he became mobile it started to affect his sleep, as he would get wedged in places and would wake up uncomfortable.
Good luck!

well we had a better night last night. M lifted Jack and did a dream feed and he slept till 2, woke had a cuddle with dad then back to bed till 6. Am happy if he wants to continue that and not need the feed as a quick cuddle is easy!

That's great SB! Maybe if you think it is hunger, continue to offer a dream feed for a bit longer? Hope this is the start of a new trend soon to return to old habits!

last night M did the dream feed, which resulted in Jack yelling for 3 hours!!! He wasn't crying, he just yelled and yelled. Apparently he had something important to say.

Sound remarkably similar to what our nights are like when Miss M is teething, that's when I pamol her and put her to bed and that usually does the trick. It is hard to tell though when they really are about to cut a tooth or just fooling ya.

Oh and madam does the same sleep thing at Day care....she will only have 1 sleep (at least it's approaching a more respectable 2 hours) and comes home knackered. Saturday is her day to snooze half the day away and catch up it seems!
But I don't recall it affected her night sleep patterns though.
