Topic: Consequences of actions… Posted: 28 April 2008 at 8:12pm |
So every now and then we all make mistakes, and we say things that are just plain wrong. Its called being human and speaking (or in this case typing) before engaging ones brain.
And the consequences of this – in a public online forum – is that you risk being criticised, slated and judged.
I do however believe that people are entitled to their opinions – obviously in this case it was wrong to voice them, and I along with the other people involved have apologised for this.
It is fine to be “called” out – directly - for your comments, but I don’t think its okay for people to discuss or judge you in another thread, especially not in a b*tchy or catty way. As mentioned before in controversial threads, if you have a problem with someone or something that they have said – take it up with them, don’t trash them in other threads.
It also appears to often be the same people passing judgement that sometimes make controversial statements themselves. Seems a bit hypocritical to me.
I have spent the afternoon stewing on this, trying to decide whether or not to post this, but have decided to risk the backlash and voice my opinion regardless of the consequences.
I have been around OB for a little while now, and although I am not a prolific poster, I would like to think that people who “know” me, know that I am not a nasty person.
Maybe I take some things too seriously, and other things I don’t take seriously enough so again I apologise to anyone that I have offended. I would go and edit the post, but feel that if people want to respond then they have that right.

Yeah I think this kind of thing comes up every now and again, and for me personally - I think people should be able to say what they want within the guidelines of whatever forum they are part of.
Only thing I might point out about your statement is that it's a little contradictory. I mean, if someone is going to say something in a thread that offends other people - then surely if others want to talk about it somewhere else then that's their right also. Not everyone is confrontational and prepared to speak out directly to someone who has upset them in some way.
For example, if someone wants to talk about how ugly someone else's child is, then they themselves have opened themselves up for critisism. They can't then be upset about others talking about them, even if it's in a bitchy way, just as they didn't care originally if they themselves had upset the mother of said ugly child.
For the record, I don't think you're nasty from what I read. There are certain people who probably take a few too many bitch pills though. Me, I'm trying to cut down

I wouldn't worry about it. I actually wish people would speak up more and good on you for doing so. However I don't think that you and others should have to apologise for having an opinion.

Good on ya Sim Sam.
I've been shot down before for things I've posted, in the end I just hit delete, its not worth the aggravation.
In relation to the WD thread, I think some of it is a bit of an over reaction. It's only Womens Day after all. Its supposed to be trashy, and make us all feel better that the celebs have troubles same as the rest of us.

It amazes me that cat fights can happen over the internet.
It seems to me that people are simply just voicing their own opinion (whatever it may be) which I think is one of the best things about OhBaby. We live in a free country after all...

Trust me there have been bigger cat fights in the past. I thought that one was quite tame.

I read it, thought it was a bit off, and then moved on. No real biggie and no malice intended I think.

Definitely not a cat fight, people voicing (or in this case typing ) different opinions. No harm intended. As someone mentioned above its a free country - why hold your tongue? ...and when I put in my 2c worth I definitely wasn't singling any of you out.
And I agree with Mel above, you shouldn't feel the need to apologize....what's said is said.
Is there really any need for it to carry on in this thread?
