How does it work?
Do you find a centre first?
Or do you apply for it first?
Do Porse allow the subsidy?
Do they pay straight to the centre, or to you?

How does it work? You fill in the forms and so does the childcare centre (they put the amount they charge per hour or per day) and how many hours your child is in care for.
Do you find a centre first? Yes
Or do you apply for it first? You need to get a place in centre first
Do Porse allow the subsidy? As far as I know yes
Do they pay straight to the centre, or to you? The subsidy amout goes straight to the centre and you pay the centre directly the left over amount.

The centre needs to be a registered centre to get the subsidy, I would imagine all centres in NZ are registered thou.

I just wanted to know - do they only do this for 3 years and older? That is what we have been told by our ABC - does that apply to all centres or just ours????

Are they meaning the free for 3 and 4 year olds G??
The childcare subsidy is for all children from birth - 5 and then 5-13 for Oscar care.
The childcare subsidy is dependant on income.

you can get 9 hours subsidised from birth till 5 years but you can also get 20 free ECE hours for 3-5 years.
If your child is getting a child disability or disability you can get up to 50 subbed hours per week for that child and their siblings.

Only if one parent is not working ie SAHM or SAHD and the other works fulltime.

Kandice if you are studying (I am sure you are) and your partner is working fulltime then you quailify for the 50 hours of subsidied daycare, but it is dependant on your faly income as to how much of a subsidy you will get. However if you aren't studying or working and your partner is then you can only get 9 hours subsidiesed.

my sis got the 9 hours then the free 20 hours and both her and her partner work full time...

There are income limits for the childcare subsidy. After I had Andrew we could get it, but we got then (at the time) $1.21 per hour subsidy as both me and Nigel were both working but our income got in just (by a few dollars) under the top limit.
When I stopped working in March 2006 our income dropped so our childcare subsidy went up (to $3 something I guess $3.21 a hour) as Nigel was working full time and I was studying full time we still kept the subsidy. As i was studying all of 2007 and Nigel was working as well and even thou I had Josh we still got the subsidy as I was still studying but could do it around Josh being at home as he was a newborn.
For you Amber if Astin didn't get the disability then as you are studying and your DH is working then you would get the 50 hours as well. If you weren't studying or working then you would get the 9 hours.

Nope, when Andrew first got it he was in 17 hours a week and slowly went up to 45 hours a week but dropped back again to 36.

So was he booked in full time or just the 17 hours?
My 2 are looking at going full time next year but might not actually be there full time but its cheaper to pay full time than for 4 days and only get 4 days subsidy if that makes sense. So I just wanted to know if you can get the full 50 hours subsidy without them actually being there 50 hours.
