Hi,
It says on studylink if you want to work part time then you have to be studying at least a 0.4 EFTS per semester. How long is a semester?
Just trying to sort our my pre health course.

Half a study year - usually 4-5 months I guess 
ETA: but they probably mean for each course duration whether that's split into semesters or not (eg my course next year is in 3 trimesters instead)

Semester one is generally feb-juneish and semester two is july-novemberish.. all depending on when your exams are

there is some really good stuff on it at the studylink site. you only need .3 EFTS for a 'short course' which they say is 12 weeks or a trimester. .5 EFTs is needed for a 20 week course and .8 EFTS for fulltime (40 - 52 weeks) if ur at uni it will be 12 weeks per semester. im only doing 1 paper the semester my baby is due, and 3 the semester after so im only eligable for help during semester 2. ive just had to go through the same drama, hopefully that helps

0.4 EFTS is basically full time study (what you need for living costs (loan), allowance, all that jazz).
I did my pre-health in the first semester of this year, and to get to that EFTS I had to do 7 papers all at once. That put me to just over 0.4 (6 was still under). Although four of those papers were half semester papers so I was only ever doing 5 at a time. If that kinda makes sense....
Any Q's bout pre-health, lemme know.

To be honest.. i really just dont know. When reading my other thread about shiftwork and weekends, and not seeing Kylah.. it really puts me off..
I put Kylah in daycare because i know i want to study! Im just so confused about what to do. Growing up i never had a clue, although i did want to do psychology, as i can read people very well.
So confusing!

Maybe go and talk to a careers advisor, they are really nice and will probably help you out a lot.
Remember you may be entitled to a student allowance so you wouldn't have to work so much or you could even do pre health part time over the whole year and figure out if you want to study full time the next year or even wait until Kylah is at school?

Can you study part time? I eased myself into it by taking 2 papers last semester as well as having Daniel home full time. It was good because it takes a bit to remember how to do the whole study bit if you have been away from it for a while and lets you see just how much time you need to study. From this I've worked out I need Daniel free time for one whole day so I've organised this for next year

Yeah, lots of people did pre-health while working, some did it part time with kids..
The good thing about not having to do it full time is that you can keep it to the ones that are pre-requisites etc.

You should still be able to get the fees paid if you do it part time. And working doesn't matter if you're only getting your fees paid.
So what papers do you need to do?

You should still get a loan if you are doing part time. My 2 papers went on my loan and that's only part time study.

I don't know what the requirements for Nursing are... but for Midwifery... my friend did her part time study like this:
Semester 1 (first half of this year)
Cells Tissues and the Human Body, Maths A and Maths B (the two maths papers only run for about 9 weeks, so you don't do them at the same time, B runs after A)
Semester 2 (last half of this year)
Chemistry
Info Skills and Therepeutic Communication (like maths, these only run for half the semester, so you do one after the other).
So at any one time, she was only doing 2 papers (two full semester, 4 half semester) and she got her fees paid by study link.

I study at uni part time and got my fees paid for the last 18 months as long as I enrolled in 3 papers over the course of the full study year (that included summer). So I ended up doing 1 paper per semester, including 1 over summer (semester 3) and found that combined with 10-15 hours work per week and looking after a 5 year old plenty. I could have done another paper each semester at a squeeze but I doubt I would've passed with straight A's as I have done so far....not skiting, just as an 'mature' student I have a real appreciation of what my tertiary eductaion costs me now and I didn't want to make a hurried half arse attempt IYKWIM?  I think I will withdraw from this summer paper though as I am already tired and feel like I want to relax and try to enjoy this pg....bit of a bummer cos it's a neat paper but I just dunno how committed I am feeling toward it now compared with being pg...lol

You can get all your fees paid for if you are studying part time.
I'm only doing 1 paper a semester and got student loan to pay for the fees. I'm doing my extramurally - ie: at home. I don't attend lectures.
