hi mila just got acepted into a child care centre for two days a week monday and friday 8.30 till 3.30 and i was woundring about the subsidy from winz. the child care for two days is $120 (is that a normal price?) and winz will only take off $30 even with this subsidy i cant offord this i dont get much a week as on on the dpb i work once a week for 3 hours but will look for more work once she is in care. ive made an appt with winz to see if i can get more but if not she cant go. does anyone alse get this? and how much do you get?
that's strange, i'd have thought they'd subsidise a lot more than that. when my friend's son was in childcare she only had to pay around $3 an hour i think. definitely enquire more and make sure you're getting all you're entitled to.
Subsidy is a maximum of 9 hours if you're not working (or if you're working less than 9 hours). Maximum subsidy is $3.51 per hour...so if you were getting that x9 hours it's around $30 off. So that sounds right.
$120 for two days sounds quite expensive for round here but it depends what area you're in? (Auckland/Wellington cost more than smaller places generally).
Yeah as someone said you get around $3 an hour for 9 hours until you are working (or studying) for more than 9 hours. So you would get more subidised when you started working more but it still not that much and that place works out to be quite expensive and so you would still be paying around $5 an hour after the subsidy.
