Topic: Addictions Posted: 09 January 2009 at 8:02pm |
SO DH said I have 2 addictions (the computer and smokes) and I have to give them both up. Last Friday I had my last smoke (haven't had one since but my god I have so wanted to. Last night he told me that I have a problem with the computer and to stop going on it. So I told him which one is it to give up the smokes or the computer. He said the computer and I can start smoking again. I do but I don't as I have done so well over the past week.
How do I cut down on the computer time after work???

i would tell him the computer doesn't have the potential to give you lung cancer! or cost heaps of money. you've done really well to get this far Becks - don't give up!!!
as for cutting computer time - what about a timer - you can download one - set it for an hour and after that - times up and it goes off.

I tend to go online when Issy goes to bed (as opposed to when I get home from work).
And why would he tell you to smoke instead of use the computer?? Thats just crazy!

He's probably wanting to spend more time together as a family. I know my DP sometimes thinks I spend too much time on the comp lol. Now I usually wait til everyone is in bed.

Wow can't believe he would rather you smoke than be on the comp. I would do what the others have said and just go on the comp when the kids have gone to bed.
By the way congrats on lasting the first week you have done so well please don't give up.

You've done really well Becks, don't let him encourage you back to smoking since you've been wanting to stop for ages.
You could assign computer free days and as others have said set aside specific times, an hour after the kids head to bed for instance.

I usually do go on it when the boys are in bed. What I don't get is that he is gone in 6 days back to work (as in I won't see him as he will be in the field and then down to Linton). At the moment I spend about 1-1 1/2 on the computer a day (not including work time) so I don't think that is that much (and I do it when he goes for a run).

I'd say bite me. Willie told the Mothercraft nurse that the computer is my other 'baby', I told him to mind his own business .
How about cutting down the time you're on it? I've done that recently, kind of without even trying coz my computer died then it's been Xmas etc. but I find myself not even wanting to have it on during the day whereas before I had it on 24-7 and was always saying "oh I just need to check something" as an excuse to get online.

What does he expect you to do when you aren't on the computer?
You've done great with giving up the smokes, I'd stick with it.
The timer thing is a great idea too.
We ended up with two computers in our house, cause DH had to wait for me to finish.

Don't start smoking again, tell him to piss off! Thats just crazy, smoking is a more expensive habit than the computer.
I only go on the computer now when the kids are in bed. I have a curfew of 10pm sometimes earlier. I don't "need" it as much as I used too.

Doesn't really make sense to me becks. An hour and a half is not long at all especially if he is out for a run.
I'm still struggling with the smoking cravings too. I'm going to find it so hard not to start again after bubs is born and DH is back at work. I'll be your no smoking buddy if you want? I know i've been off them for longer but I'm still having major cravings several times a day and even the mood swings. Must be something to do with being pg as I don't think they usually last this long.

Don't start smoking again - you've done so well.
But if you know how to crack the computer addiction, please let me know

Hahaha. Those are my two addictions and my DH has been onto me about them both also.
He sits there and reads his book while im on the computer. So i dont see what the difference is? At least I respond to him in a timely manner when he asks me a question. He has to finish his sentence, put his finger on the word, then peer over his book. And hes usually not very happy that ive interupted him.
I say keep up with the not smoking.

Congrats on 7 days smokefree!! That is an awesome achievement!! I am no help on the computer addiction, although I try to limit to when D is napping and when they are in bed.
