Topic: Help Need advise Posted: 17 July 2006 at 2:18pm |
Hi everyone I'm new to all this but I really need some help. My baby is 10 mths old and I'm really undecided whether to go back to work or not. I love my p/t job but I also love looking after my son. I have a year off and are due back soon. I can cope without the extra money I can budget well although extra money would be welcomme. My husband has started up his building business so am learning how to do the books(very boring!!)Any advise???!!!

It's a really personal and tough decision to make. With my first kiddie, I went back to work because I had to (only parent etc) and it worked well for me. I had great daycare support and it was a way for Sean to interact with other kiddies and to be honest, I needed the grown up stimuli of work (or more importantly, the people at work).
However with Andrew, I have decided to stay at home and be the full-time at home parent caregiver. It's been tough and sometimes a little isolating, but I've loved almost every day of it. I have a wonderfully supportive husband and we are making do, sacrificing things like savings plans and overseas holidays, but having a wonderful time with the kids. In the end, the decision is going to be all yours...just remember, whatever choice you make, it's not necessarily final. There is a bouyant labour market and you should be able to find part-time work if you need/want to and on the other hand, just because you go back, doesn't mean you have to stay there indefinitely.
Good luck either way.

I work part time, which being a chef is all night work, so Alex stays home and has some daddy time while I work. That works out really well for us (although in the last week he has started to realise mummy isn't home and is being naughty for daddy!) I wouldn't like to work full time, I think I would miss Alex too much, and would hate to miss out on all those special first moments. But lots of people have no choice and have to work full time, and they manage fine. It is a personal decision. I agree listen to your heart!!

Ooooooo... that is so weird!! You are still me!! What happens if you try to PM someone?
But back to the original question: I think it is definitely a personal choice, but don't feel like you should stay at home cause that is what nice mummys do. I went back to uni when Quinn was 16 months, I dreaded putting him into daycare and then felt HORRID cause i loved having time without him. Putting him into care will not damage him for the future, he will still grow into a functioning member of society (despite what my partners mother thinks). Good luck!

Hi their twin, what does PM mean? This is really weird as I have my own login and password? Thanks for advice.
