grrrr plunket make me so mad

I rang them in regards to feeding and solids etc,

and i was told that if she should be on 4 bottles a day of 200mls and if she wasnt that i need to drop a feed.

Rhiannon drinks 5 feeds of 180mls, and wont drink any more than that (well its actually 4 feeds at 180mls, and 1 feed of 100mls)

and that her last feed should be 7pm and that she should be sleeping through the night

she then said to me that if that wasnt happening then i was doing something wrong.

Well i can tell you i saw red

Rhiannon is happy, healthy, settled, contented so i cant be doing anything wrong....who the bloody hell does this women think she is.

Okay sorry for the rant but i had to vent

Wow, I would complain Kazzle!
That is so off the mark, definitely not true.
The plunket nurses I have seen have always been very quick to reassure me that all babies are different and no two will do things at exactly the same time.
I think whoever you spoke to is letting her own opinions cloud her advice.
Don't let her stupid untrue words sink in Kazzle, you're doing a great job by all accounts.

oh Kazzle, sometimes those Plunket nurses can be real cows can't they!!? I had a few run ins early on too, but in the end I decided to pretty much ignore them! Every baby is different and as long as Rhiannon is happy and thriving I wouldn't worry. I can soooooo understand being mad though sweets! HUGS!!

Thanks guys, its funny how we know we are doing a good job but all it takes is one person to say...."you are doing it wrong" and then all the self doubt starts.

Well im not going to let that happen.

Grr Plunket.. the worst is this woman I used to get when I was at my wits end at 3am, it was always the same person, I got so annoyed at her once I hung up on her

You take the advice you want and leave the rest. You're doing a great job and you can tell Rhiannion is thriving

That plunket nurse needs a kick up the a**, there is nothing worse than when they make you feel like you are doing something wrong

My DS will be 15 weeks tomorrow and he is drinking around the same amount as Rhiannon, and is also thriving!!  I have tried to increase his feeds slightly and make them a bit further apart but he is not having it lol so it is working for him!  I had a plunket nurse tell me with my first DS that I should MAKE him wait for 3 hrs between feeds, WTF?!?  Like I was going to listen to him scream for food because it hadnt been 3 hrs?

I'm sure you are doing a fantastic job!!

Grrrrrr plunket make's me so angry was it your nurse or the plunketline? If it was you local plunket you know you don't have to use plunket for your well child check's you can use your GP or another local healthcare provider. I refuse to have anything to do with plunket after a conversation that went very similar to your's. It sound's to me that your wee girl is doing just fine and you are doing a great job. If I was you I would complain if we don't make formal complaint's about people like this they just keep getting away with treating us hard working good Mum's so bably.

I haven't been back to plunket since before Quinn's nine months appt for a very similar reason. I have found that some of the nurses are fantastic and very quick to tell you that all bubs are diff and you are doing fine but then there are some horrid narky old cows who tell you that you are doing it wrong, never mind that it works for you and that your baby is perfect, you are still doing it wrong. No mother needs to hear that! Grrr!

There are no set rules for when and how much to feed your baby, I do not think that you can narrow it down to exact mls at certain intervals.

I have found so far that most of my parenting is just 'winging it' and seeing what works anyway....

My mum hates plunket. when I was six months old, her nurse told her I was too fat, and needed to be drinking SKIM MILK not breast milk!!!!, and that the rattle was just a cold - turned out to be pneumonia and i nearly died. anyway, she hates them. I've been lucky and only had nice ones, but so mnay stories about nasty ones are around.

It sounds like you are doinga agreat job Kaz. And hey, how can every baby be the same? those are GUIDELINES only as shouldn't be treated as gospel.

oh, and Taine has onl;y JUST started sleeping through the night at 6 months. and he is a happy, chubby bubba.

Grrrrr Kaz!! Stupid Plunket woman! You know you are doing a fantastic job - it's complete rubbish that babies should all be sleeping through the night at her age. I had my antenatal coffee group today, and pretty much everyone has at least one wake up a night. Grrrrrrr Plunket I had one woman laugh her head off at me on Plunketline, cos I was scared my milk was drying up - nobody told me that supply becomes supply/demand at about 3 months and she made me feel so stupid and embarrassed.

its very sad that so many of us have such bad experiences, yet they want us to save there plunket line...its a shame there isnt really anywhere else for us to go.

I have decided that i am just going to keep doing what i am doing, and follow what Rhiannon wants

Thanks everyone, sending big hugs all your way

Everyone on this site is a wonderful mother, (and father), and no matter what plunket or anybody else (who wants to be negative) has to say, we are all doing wonderful jobs, our kids are happy, healthy, thriving, ppl seem to forget that MOTHERS KNOW WHAT IS BEST.

I rang the plunket lady back late yesterday afternoon, and i said to her that i did not appreciate the way she spoke or treated me and that she needed to change her attitude because it was ppl like her that made new mothers and even second and third time mothers feel useless, i also pointed out to her, that if i had been suffering from pnd then those sorts of comments could have a very devastating effect on the mother.

The women was very quiet on the other end, and then apologised. so alls well that ends well i suppose

I so hated my Plunket nurse that I had with Andrew. She made me feel so bad for having to give Andrew formula as he wasn't getting all that much from me. She was like only give a few mls its not like he needs heaps to drink and always swap sides and even go back to the first as more milk would have been made. I didn't see her after the 3 month check. I told the Plunket place in Palmy about her and she was told that she needs to bring her ideas to the 2000's as more people need to comp their children. So glad we have moved and we won't see her with the next one.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

my plunket nurse with Kobe told me he was too fat and then i heard she was talking to other mothers about the "poor baby who was born with a cleft" I was really annoyed to say the least cos I dont think they should be talking about you to other people, one of whom I only knew threw a friend of a friend. I stopped using her but now have moved so had first meeting with the new one last week and she is lovely.

Thats terrible I thought fat babies were good and don't they go on and on about demand feeding. That was so rude about the cleft thing its not your fault and you can't even see it now. I really wonder about how some plunket nerses got their jobs
