Topic: Comfort habits Posted: 23 May 2008 at 10:35am |
Does you child have a blankie? Suck their thumb? Have a favourite toy?
What's their absolute essential comfort tool?
Michaela's is a bit weird. She grabs an ear (mine or DH's preferably but her own will do) and holds/kneeds/strokes the lobe with her thumb and forefinger.
She's also a bottle addict and has a favourite teddy bear but her essential comfort tool is an ear.

Josh has Winnie the Pooh that he has all the time, Andrew has Tigger but he has gone missing so at the moment he is using one of my old teddies.

Ella has Mog, a stuffed cat, and she also sucks her tongue. (makes a sucking action without a dummy or thumb there)
Benjy still has his dummy for sleeps and has a stuffed monkey and a stuffed bunny called Max. He likes the monkey better though.

Joshua sucks his thumb. He also either rubs his own or someone elses ear at the same time, or... ahem, has his hands down his pants lol!

Nyah bites her nails when shes unsure about a situation. She's got a big Dora that she sleeps with, and when shes really tired she'll carry Dora around.
Conor was a thumbsucker but not anymore - he has to get braces now
Cooper loves his muzzies. Oh and won't get anywhere without Spiderbug.

Togs. Any pair of togs. Or my underwear that is silky and stretchy. She describes the fabric as "toggy"
And her thumb.

Neosha has always been a thumb sucker right from our first scan pic! But apart from that she likes her soft blanket and soft dog that she always grabs when she is tired.

I was (and still am) a textile girl too. I had a red woollen blanket with pink satin trim and I used to lie in bed and stroke my face with the satin as I drifted off to sleep.

Hehe, yeah Benjy hasn't BF in almost a year now and still likes to shove his hand in between them and nuzzle into them when he's tired or under the weather.
LOL Nikki! That is so cute and funny.

If she is really upset Miss M likes her pacifier *and* Winnie the Pooh but normally just Pooh will suffice. Of course he is look so dirty and grot now but we can't pry it off her long enough to wash it and we can't find a duplicate!

Duplicates don't work Paws. My mum loves to tell us how my sister left her toy monkey on the train and so mum purchased another one, even bit off the plastic fingers on the right hand - she always new it wasn't the real Wovely and from then on it was just another toy and she turned who heart to her bear. Have you tried including her in the process of washing Pooh? Like a game, wash some of the others toys and get her to help hand wash Pooh and then hang him on the line - just not by an ear or a foot or an arm - better to make a rope sling

LOL Gen we had the same washing issues with Fussy, Fussy is a dime a dozen doll but when we bought a second one Maya told us on no uncertain terms that it is "Fussy Fake". Now she lets us wash her (sometimes) but she is so old and worn that she is permanently grey. She also sucks her tongue like Mel's Ella, we call it the "Fussy tongue".
Mercedes has "Peter", a stuffed Peter Rabbit with a blanket and a mirror on his tummy that we got at the Baby Factory. We were onto it with her tho and as soon as we realised she was attached, we bought a second one, and now she'll take either one no problems, sometimes she lugs them both around.
Sienna used to suck her wrist, even as a newborn, and hated being wrapped because of it. I tried giving her a Jemima Puddleduck (the same as Mercedes Peter) a Care Bear, and a muslin but she wasn't having any of it. Then at Xmas we were in Oz and she took a shine to a bunny rabbit that belonged to my sister, and my sister let her have it, so now it's her "Bubba Bunny". It's pretty manky coz we couldn't find a duplicate and when we finally did she wouldnt take it so poor Bubba Bunny doesn't get washed much.

Isn't it weird that sometimes they attach later on??
Hannah didn't start sucking her thumb until about 18 months old and the tog thing happened soon after. Before that she wasn't attached to anything! (except me)
