Topic: Stupid fears! Posted: 22 October 2008 at 3:40pm |
Anyone else have irrational fears of things they really shouldn't be afraid of? Mine is...
The telephone!
Lol, I feel like such an idiot. DH asked me to ring up the landlord of the place we looked at yesterday (we said we'd let them know today whether we wanted to take it or not) to say we've decided not to take it. I've been putting it off all day, getting worked up about the thought of having to ring them, and finally I emailed him and said I just couldn't do it! I just felt absolutely terrified of having to ring them. What a wally (so he rang them instead, hehe!)
So, make me feel better, what are you afraid of?!

Cotton wool!! Eeekkk the feeling of it just gives me shivers.
Once when I was nannying, the 3 year old had chicken pox and the mum wanted me to put the lotion on with cotton wool..... I made the little boy hold it in his hand lol and then I guided his hand to the spots!! I was trying to make it seem like 'oh this is fun, man you're such a big boy helping me put the funny cream on you' but really I was just freaking out about the gross cotton wool. I do not allow it in my house. Lol.

And driving on wharves...I'm OK on bridges, but wharves give me the hebbies - and I can't drive on to the Interisland Ferry - DH has to. I get out and walk...

I have a fear of passing large trucks and driving next to the barrier over the habour bridge. I am always terrified that I am going to hit it. But now I am nervous about driving on the clip-ons too!!! I just hold my breath and try not to think about it too much!

Lifts - I hate them so much, if I can I'll take the stairs or just not bother going into the building makes for interesting times.

Thats the same as my DP it cracks me up, I could never understand it.
Mine used to be the telephone too Rachel and I never used to be able to ring anyone. But since having kids I have to use it a lot more so I'm not so bad. I still put it off a lot but don't worry so much.

Me too! i avoid lifts at ALL costs and will NOT go in one by myself! I have to have my mobile phone with me if I go in one incase the doors won't open!
When I was a child I got trapped in a lift at Auckland Airport and I have never been able to get over it.

I'm scared of mouldy food. I will not touch it even to throw it out, I make DH do it. I'm a little irrational about use by dates as well.

People who do things like paint themselves grey and pretend to be statues on the street- street performers I guess you'd call them? And people in big dress up costumes (like Barney)- they FREAK me out. I go out of my way to avoid them If I have to walk past one my heart starts racing and I get all sweaty- they scare me so much.

Argh I can understand the phone thing, I sound like a 12 year old over the phone and often when I HAVE TO answer the phone here at my parents the person on the other end asks if they can please speak to my mummy (random people from telemarketing etc)
Spiders are a BIG phobia for me, as is polystyrene - ya know what they use to pack TVS and appliances in boxes. OMG the sound of the stuff sends me and I feel absolutely sick to my stomach.
